- Bleach - Gin's Captain by AlseGold - I've read this author's Tenipuri fic before, so I recognize the name when I saw a post show up on the Bleach comms. I am so glad that I stopped to take a chance on this fic because it's a delightfully creepy piece that fits with characters like Aizen and Gin so very well. The way the story is told, the turns of phrase that bring to mind the imagery of the manga itself, the way the story unfolds and you realize who the people are in the story, is all gorgeous and keeps that creepy air that fits the characters. The writing is beautiful, the characterization is terrific, the way even such a tiny little moment like with Gin and the bowl are so pitch-perfect that it says everything about them through one tiny little gesture. I love that. Fantastic fic. (It's really gen more than anything, but you could read Aizen/Gin into if it you were so inclined, maybe?)
- Bleach/Sailor Moon - On the Job Training by Sophia P - This was such a fun, clever little crossover that was a delight to read! One of the things that really makes (or breaks) a crossover is that point of intersection between the two series, that reason to bring the two together and a conversation between Artemis and Yoruichi set the tone for something light and just fun. I especially loved Yoruichi's sly characterization here and the ending was great. <3 (No warnings/pairings.) - Bleach/One Piece - The Six Phases Of A Project by incandescens - Bleach and One Piece! I didn't think this kind of crossover would work (despite that they're obviously two of my favorite series) but this was just delightful fun and the two slid together in this way that... it's a combination of the sense of humor of both Bleach and One Piece, it has this style that manages to fit both of them. Plus, Smoker, Tashigi, and the other Marines! Adding Shunsui and Nanao into that mix! Craziness in the way that these two series should have craziness! Really a greatly fun fic. ♥ (No real warnings/pairings beyond what you'd see in canon.) - Bleach/xxxHOLiC - April Showers May Bring Flowers by Sophia P - Seeing a Bleach/HOLiC crossover by this author immediately caught my attention and it was just as satisfying and fantastic as I had expected it to be. The way it fills in background for the characters, the way all these little details are woven into the story, the way the two worlds fit together, the way it foreshadows so much of what we know is going to happen, it's all fantastic. I love how the descriptions of things set the mood, I love the imagery the author used, first in the rain, then the magical-but-not object in the character's hands, the build-up of dialogue to get to the final scenes, all of it was just beautifully done. (No warnings/pairings.) - Bleach - Sated by libekory - Oh, this was lovely. It's such a simple scene, Aizen and Gin watch some Hollows from above in Heuco Mundo, a light and easy conversation between them. Set from Gin's perspective, which isn't always an easy thing, there's almost a light-hearted playfulness here, so casual that you could almost miss all the insightful little moments. I love it, how bored Gin must be in Hueco Mundo, the playing with the recruits that he does here (which I can utterly and completely buy happening in the series itself), the power between both of them, even as they simply stand and watch the Hollows devour each other. I didn't even have to try to see the whole thing in my mind's eye. (Aizen/Gin, except that I would call this almost entirely gen.) - Bleach - Diamond Girl by kay_willow - Ishida/Rukia is a pairing that I have contemplated before, they've had a moment or two in canon that has made me think, but nothing ever really came of it (in canon or in fandom) so I sort of forgot about it. (Especially since I like Ishida/Nemu so much.) And then I read this fic and it makes me want to actively ship them, because the dyanmic really works here, the whole fic sparkles and is full of clever little moments that are hilarious and sharp-witted. There's a certain sort of understanding between the two of them, an acceptance of both of their quirks that they don't really seem too bothered by, and after this fic where Ishida asks Rukia to attend a party thrown by Ryuuken (since who else is he going to ask?), about the only reason I'm not shipping it is because it'd break my heart always pining for more of it. Instead, I'll enjoy this fic where it works and be delighed with that. (Ishida/Rukia possible implications, mild blink-and-you'll-miss-it implications of Ishida/Orihime.) - Bleach - Routine by ashirabe - After the last fic being kind of depressing, I wanted something happier to cheer me up and this fic was delightful for it. Set pre-series (or at least very, very early series otherwise), it's a short little thing about Orihime going to school with some new scratches on her arms and Ichigo stops her to ask her about them. I love this fic because Ichigo does treat her a bit more gently than other people, but not so much that it breaks his character (which is how I find him in the manga, too ♥) and then she spins this tale about her adventures of the previous night and it's-- as;dflkjalskj, it's so Orihime that I loved it. Her batshit is so casual here, it's fantastic. XD (Ichigo/Orihime, possibly. Or it could be gen.) - Bleach - Satellite by vicious_lullaby - This was a beautiful little piece on Rukia pre-series and her confusing relationship with Byakuya. I like it because it fits so well with the character I saw, she was so quiet around Byakuya, so deferential and sad, but she was smart and very sharp. I love the glimpses of Byakuya we get, the things Rukia sees about him and what she notices when he looks at her, I love that he doesn't have a flicker of emotion in his eyes, instead he goes unreadable and still, that's a lovely Byakuya right there. The writing is very pretty and fics like this remind me of why I love Byakuya and Rukia interaction so much. (This is gen, but Byakuya/Rukia fans might enjoy it as well.) - Bleach - Child by EstelRaca - This was a really lovely look at Matsumoto's thoughts on Hitsugaya, the writing is lovely and captures how she can be so frivolous sometimes while still being someone to take seriously, and it's lovely to read a story where she obviously cares a great deal about Hitsugaya without making it too obvious. I like the author's take on why she teases him so much, the dichotomy between the child's body he's in and the soldier that he (usually) actually is and how hard that can be sometimes, especially when she's not quite sure all of the time. ....I'm explaining this badly. It's a wonderful fic, though, so go read. (This is entirely gen, but if you enjoy Hitsugaya/Matsumoto interaction you may enjoy this, too.) - Bleach - Of Pioneering Most Painful by dusted_sunlight - I picked this link up off the ichi_hime comm, though, it's really less of a shipping piece than a story on Orihime's arrival in Las Noches and what's going through her mind as she does. It's a really interesting take on her, the balance between her usual crazy thought patterns, except so much more subdued, and the gravity of the situation she finds herself in. There are all these same crazy fantasies, if quieter than usual, while you can still tell how much she's hurting the entire time, how painful everything here is for her. The imagery the author uses is nice as well, it's a really solid little piece for her. (Some Ichigo/Orihime, but on the level of canon, it's an Orihime piece more than anything.) - Bleach - Something on the Surface by ArtemisRae - Ahahahaha, okay, this was delightful. Yoruichi in a (very short) conversation with Jinta isn't something I would have thought up myself, but it seems so perfect here, especially since it's so... Bleach, in the way that Yoruichi doesn't really want this conversation and in the way she deals with it. Plus, the ending totally got a laugh out of me. XD (Maybe implications of Urahara/Yoruichi, maybe entirely gen.)
