- Bleach - Projection by Harukami - Bleach fic, Bleach fic, Bleach fic~ *hums and twirls happily* I am completely and utterly gone on the female characters of Bleach, because characters like Orihime, Tatsuki, Chizuru, and Rukia and Karin and all the others are some of the BEST I HAVE EVER MET. And this fic is another example of why--it's a gorgeous little fic because it's so much of what Bleach is--craziness, hysterical moments, touching characters that are about more than what's on the surface, and scenes that are just so much FUN for a reader. I ♥ Chizuru and her interaction with Orihime and Tatsuki, I ♥ Orihime and Tatsuki's friendship, and I ♥ this li'l fic because it captured that perfectly and because I can JUST SEE that ending and because *ufufufufufufu* Chizuru/Tatsuki MAKES ME HAPPY. Really happy. Especially when Harukami writes it 'cause, OMG, I CAN SEE IT. And BELIEVE it. XD XD XD (Some femslash-y stuff. I mean, Chizuru's in it, so.)

- Bleach - Third Wheel by Harukami - Okay, so, right? I'm skipping along with the whole Bleach thing, minding my own business, "La la la~ Ichigo and Orihime~ La la la~ Ishida's so pretty and I love him~ La la la~ Ichigo and Orihime, la la la~", and not really thinking about too much else, right? Certainly not about minor characters or anything. So, like, then I start talking to Haru, right? And, like, have a conversation about Chizuru, right? And suddenly I'm all "OMG Chizuru and Tatsuki ARE the bestest thing to happen to rivalfemslash since, like, I dunno, EVER!" And I know these aren't my thoughts that are now in my head, right? I think Harukami's suddenly developed the ability to control people's brains. It's the only explanation, yo. XD That said, eeeeeeeeeee, the way Harukami writes Chizuru is like Chizuru was MADE for her, that's how perfect she is in this story. This is... like, "OMG, are you stealing the mangaka's brain at night to write this fic??" perfect. It's funny, it's sharp, it's clever, it's heart-warming friendship, and it's fucking perfect characterization. I continue to maintain that stories like this capture everything that makes me so fascinated with the Bleach manga in the first place. I cackled and sporfled and giggled while reading this story. And if the comments are any indication, you don't even need to read Bleach to love this story. It's just that funny and sparkling on its own. ♥ (Some femslash vibes, but there's little actual pairing. I mean, it's got CHIZURU.)

- Bleach - Curveballs by Harukami - Ahhhh. Haru's Bleachfic. Such a lovely thing, because she can capture the crack of the series, but still do the characters damn fine justice. Her Chizuru is just the bestest Chizuru EVAH and Tatsuki and Chizuru fighting and snarking and then baseball and Orihime's batshit fantasy and Chizuru's rampant groping and oh, god, the COMEDIC TIMING is just so pitch-perfect and the baseball and the absolutely perfect ending line that is just *so* Bleach. God, I can't stop grinning every time I read one of her Bleach fics. (Chizuru/Tatsuki.)

- Bleach - Don't Call Me Short by Triste - A/N: If this pairing makes you go, 'omg, liek, WUT?', then I've done my job. XD I know, I know, but give the fic a shot anyway! It's crack, but the best kind of crack. The author is truly talented at coming up with funny dialogue that fits the characters and she walks the line between humor and parody fantastically, creating something that had me laughing the entire way through the story. Ichigo and Hitsugaya's interaction was hilarious here, each snarking at the other, and by the time I was done, I was half-convinced that maybe it wasn't completely impossible after all. Also, the ending was GREAT. XD (Hitsugaya/Ichigo.)

- Bleach - Will There Be Bonfires? by Tracy - I've been looking for Aizen x Gin fic for awhile and this was an interesting, fun, crack-ish read that was just... well, it was on crack, really, but once you get used to that (which I really should be more used to, considering the fandoms I come from XD), it was pretty funny and I'm all ♥ over the Aizen/Gin, of course. It was just... Aizen is insane and Gin is evil and the whole thing is brilliantly WTF-ish. Especially Hitsugaya and the bonfires and the butterflies and just hee! ♥ (Aizen/Gin.)

- Bleach - Show Me Your Frankenstein - Do you know how glad I am that Moonsheen is in the Bleach fandom? Do you? Because I don't know how many other people could get me to read a Komamura/Tousen fic in the first place, much less to be so starry-eyed over it because it was just so damned perfect. Her Komamura is fabulous, she achieves the dignity and grace in that huge form that was so very present in the manga and her Tousen is just... god, he couldn't have been more Tousen, I don't think. The dynamic was perfect, like it was straight out of the manga, and it had this... I mean. I guess. What I'm trying to say is. It was perfect. In that way that I could confuse for canon. In that way that makes me ache that there's not more of this. In that way that it was everything it needed to be and I'm satisfied. (Sort of Komamura/Tousen, but it's more implied than anything.)

- Bleach - fade into you by Zau - How happy am I to see Urahara/Yoruichi fic? So happy. Especially with the way Zau writes the characters, there's this beautiful atmosphere to the piece, this weighted and heavy feeling between them, it's dark and not easy at all, it's painful in a lot of places, and there's this sense of something like being underwater, of drowning throughout the whole thing. Like I could almost feel a cold rain or feel heavy hands pressed against my own wrists--when an author can get me to almost physically feel something, that's when I get terribly impressed. The imagery is lovely and there are these wonderful turns of phrase and I'm going to go flap my hands quietly in the corner now. Complicated, messy, aching, but not depressing Urahara/Yoruichi? I didn't know how much I wanted it until I read it. *__* (Urahara/Yoruichi, a little Yoruichi/Soi Fong.)

- Bleach - Frat Buddies by Celeste - See, I have this thing for the idea of Shunsui/Ukitake and it just won't go away. So seeing that Celeste had written a fic for them? Why, I had to pounce, of course. Though, one of my favorite things about this fic was the idea of Shunsui and Urahara as drinking buddies, because you know they had to have been. And the way Ukitake tries to fill the role that Urahara left behind, but he can't, because you just can't change your role in someone's life and, ultimately, you wouldn't really want to, because you're best where you are, even if you hurt for the other person... well, yes, I really liked this, because Celeste put in just the right amount of nostalgia, just the right amount of pain, and just the right amount of hope. Especially nice for the Ukitake focus. (Some Shunsui/Ukitake.)

- Bleach - Together By Fate by Triste - [Note: Incidental spoilers for chapter 186. No actual plot spoilers, but if you want to be completely, ONE HUNDRED PERCENT unspoiled, skip this fic.] ....oh, my GOD. Just... OH MY GOD. There is no way to describe this fic that could properly get across the sheer, "OH. MY. GOD." factor, I don't think. I just... man, how do you explain the sheer brilliance of an extended Isshin fic? Not just a scene here and there, but a good, straight, 4,000+ words of pure Isshin insanity? Because that's what you're going to read this fic for, because I could not stop myself from bursting out laughing in the middle of scenes, when Isshin would do something completely insane and, yet, the image of it would just pop to mind crystal clear. And by the time you get to the end, I just... I mean... there are so many lines I want to quote... but I can't because I don't want to ruin the jokes. Just... oh, my god. Go read. I dare you not to crack up at Isshin's insanity. (Isshin/Ryuuken.)

- Bleach - Limit Break by Celeste - So. Uh. I still have this thing for Shunsui/Ukitake and my affection for this story is purely in the sense that I like yaoi. No, really. I like yaoi and I like the pretty images and I like poor Ukitake being so worn out while Shunsui is so... Shunsui in going about doing it again and then toss in a cute ending. I go ♥ for this fic 'cause I still like them so much. Shut up. XP (Shunsui/Ukitake.)

- Bleach - 1000 Demons by Celeste - [Note: There are spoilers for the Soul Society arc in this fic.] You know, if you'd explained the concept of this post to me ahead of time, I'm not sure I would have thought it could be quite as cool as it was... but the way Celeste put the idea together with Komamura and Tousen, it was really cool and wound up being a rather powerful little fic. I mean, I liked the relationship between the two of them in the first place, but this did a fantastic job with them and it's a fantastic scene that... it isn't quite foreshadowing for what we know will happen, but it adds a brilliant little illumination on it. I just... really liked this one! (It's labelled Komamura/Tousen, but it could have been gen.)

- Bleach - Good Boy by Celeste - I have a weakness for the idea of Gin x Izuru, because it would be an utterly fucked up, unbalanced relationship... and, yet, that's somehow appealing with this pairing because I don't secretly wish it were anything more than that. So a fic like this, where it's a fucked up, dark relationship, where Izuru is addicted to all the things he shouldn't be, where he's powerless against the way he reacts, against the way Gin presses him down and does dark things to him, it all combines together and somehow works for me, much like the way the idea of the pairing in the manga did for me. (Gin/Izuru, dark content, possibly verging on R-rated.)

- Bleach - untitled by Zau - When I read a bunch of shortfics together like this, it's easy to see why multiple pairing fics are often so popular, why so many people write so many different things. But it's only the rare fics that actually pull off the style of writing so many different facets of a cast like Bleach's and Zau does it brilliantly. Every single one of these contributed to a larger whole--not in the sense that they're connected in the same storyline, but there's a certain feel, a certain style of imagery that knocks the wind from my lungs. Reading about all these relationships that the characters have with each other, some things I never would have thought possible (the Ukitake/Rukia piece is the one that put a lot of this together for me, because I found it brilliant in her hands, where I doubt I would have in another's) or just new aspects of relationships that are complete OTPs/friendships for me. I adored these, I adored the beautiful language and all the lovely turns of phrase. And, oh, that final one? Beautiful, I felt it. (Multiple pairings, both het and yaoi, as well as several gen pieces.)

- Bleach - for the holy days by Neo - ....ah, shit, okay, I give. I was totally won over by the random 11th Division amusement, as Yumichika, Zaraki, and Yachiru blithely make Ikkaku's life hell. I actually laughed out loud because I really liked the author's Yumichika, the characterization and even his 'voice' and Zaraki's final reaction was just... LOL. Perfectly timed. Plus, the more I read of the fic, the more I settled on her take on Renji and the final scene with Rukia was just... *happy sigh* The story works better, I think, when I got what the author was going for, a scene that was... almost quiet and routine, despite the antics and hijinks of the cast. The tone was lovely, there was a certain lovely crisp winter feel to the entire piece, I wound up adoring the characterizations, and there were some genuinely clever, funny, sharp lines. A nice fic to come back to in the fandom. ....and I mentioned the Renji/Rukia that made me sigh happily, right? Right. (Implied Renji/Rukia, Yumichika/Ikkaku.)

- Bleach - untitled by Chevira Lowe - A series of little short fics for various Bleach characters and, holy shit, there is so much love here. Urahara and Yoruichi and Benihime and fighting and hotness and slinking and practically purring and there was something so sleek and perfect about the first one. And then 11th division retardation and then there was Renji/Rukia not-quite-porn but it was hot and it was perfect because I was laughing, sparkling, and practically humming from how hot they'd be together, all at the same time. And then. AND THEN. Ikkaku and Yumichikia in the human world in a coffee shop and there was something so perfect about these last two Ikkaku/Yumichika drabbles, the way both characters were such love, the way they were both perfect that... I. Um. Thinking I maybe might want more Ikkaku/Yumichika. Shut up. And everyone seriously needs to read the last one with Zaraki and Yachiru. Five lines of brilliance. XDDDD (Some Urahara/Yoruichi, Renji/Rukia, Ikkaku/Yumichika, and some gen.)

- Bleach - he imitates by valmora - There is a very real lack of Aizen/Gin fic in the fandom that manages to skirt the over-the-top creepy or the temptation to make them Tru Luv. I thought this fic had an interesting take on the creepy side of their relationship, the way Aizen doesn't really get mad at the way Gin never shows his eyes, because that would mean being more invested in Gin than he is, but there's a certain... something there at the same time. (Aizen/Gin.)

- Bleach - The Color Of by Chrissie - [Note: There may be some spoilers in this fic if you're only following the anime.] You know those fics you didn't know how badly you wanted them until you're halfway through them and just not wanting them to end? Yeah, that's what happened here. I mean, I was pretty sure I was going to like the fic, it was by Chrissie and it was Aizen/Gin and I'd wanted that quite a lot, but I didn't think I would be squeeing quite this much. Because, holy crap, I love her take on Gin's character, the sense of whimsy and cute little waves and cheerful attitude even while he's being wholly evil and it just... all fits together. Nothing feels forced, it feels very natural to read about her Gin here, the way he plays with the inhabitants of Hueco Mundo for entertainment, the way he looks at Aizen, the way his characterization is clever and brilliant in this fic. The relationship dynamics between the characters are fabulous as well--and what I mean by that is that it's a delight to watch Gin be both respectful and whimsical around Aizen, it's a delight to watch him taunt Grimmjow, it's a delight to watch him have a conversation with Tousen. This is the Aizen/Gin fic... well, the Gin fic that I always wanted to read. I can rest a little easier in fandom now. ♥ (Aizen/Gin, but it's an interesting Gin fic more than anything.)

- Bleach - untitled by grayout - I was journalhopping and browsing friendsfriends and happened to stumble over this piece at random, taking the time out to read since I've liked the author's FFVIII fic a lot before. And this was... there's something almost surreal about this Kira piece, the way Gin is there-yet-not in his mind, the way it's flashes of imagery that Kira can picture all too well, the way his imagination tears at him and won't let him stop thinking about it, all expressed far better than in this rec. There's an interesting intense quality to the writing, along with lovely characterization. (Gin/Kira.)

- Bleach - untitled by Chrissie - This is quite possibly the best Gin/Kira fic in existance. It is both hilarious and HILARIOUS, the writing is clean and smooth, as always, but it's also... I howled with laughter during the entire piece. The contrast of Kira's thoughts against Gin's thoughts, the masterful setting of the background battle around them. Beautiful writing, beautiful fic, I flail in my attempt to write a rec that does justice to it. (Could almost be gen, could sort of be Gin/Kira.)

- Bleach - Gin's Captain by AlseGold - I've read this author's Tenipuri fic before, so I recognize the name when I saw a post show up on the Bleach comms. I am so glad that I stopped to take a chance on this fic because it's a delightfully creepy piece that fits with characters like Aizen and Gin so very well. The way the story is told, the turns of phrase that bring to mind the imagery of the manga itself, the way the story unfolds and you realize who the people are in the story, is all gorgeous and keeps that creepy air that fits the characters. The writing is beautiful, the characterization is terrific, the way even such a tiny little moment like with Gin and the bowl are so pitch-perfect that it says everything about them through one tiny little gesture. I love that. Fantastic fic. (It's really gen more than anything, but you could read Aizen/Gin into if it you were so inclined, maybe?)

- Bleach - untitled by Chrissie - Oh, man, yes, this is what Aizen/Gin fic should be like all of the time! Certainly all Gin fic as well. It's this upbeat, smiley sort of fic with these moments of subtle creepy, and perfect. Her Gin is that sort of whimsical that doesn't really do much to hide how dangerous he can be, yet it's not like he's precisely a psychopath, either. Her Aizen is fantastic as well, so... Aizen, especially with Gin, even when they're talking about something as simple as the cake Gin baked for him. Just... asdf;lkajsldkj yes! I loved this! (Aizen/Gin.)

- Bleach - Superman Is Not A Hero by kay_willow - I would never have thought to make the comparison between Aizen and Superman, but I really liked the way this author worked with it, using both the comparisons inside the story and contrasting it with what the reader will know about Superman (how he's actually the good guy of the story), but I especially loved how the use of the Superman story was obviously from a foreign country, much like how an English-speaking culture would tell a story about Japanese mythology/pop culutre. It lended that extra bit of seriousness to the fic, while still keeping it light-hearted and playful, Gin's whole teasing attitude just perfect as he listens to the story, and made the whole piece that much more fantastic. And I did love the way Aizen and Gin interacted with each other, it was really spot-on for their relationship, all those hints of something dark and dangerous lurking under their polite Soul Society selves. (Aizen/Gin.)

- Bleach - sweet beguiling by incandescens - This is a really interesting take on the Aizen/Gin relationship, I love the comparison of Gin to a snake and Aizen to a snakecharmer. There's something rather... appropriate in that metaphor, especially the way it's woven deftly throughout this fic. I also like how twisted Gin comes off, in a sort of whimsical way, how Aizen knowing him so thoroughly doesn't mean he doesn't have thoughts sometimes, but it also means he submits, very kinda creepy. As Gin should be. (Aizen/Gin.)

- Bleach - Sated by libekory - Oh, this was lovely. It's such a simple scene, Aizen and Gin watch some Hollows from above in Heuco Mundo, a light and easy conversation between them. Set from Gin's perspective, which isn't always an easy thing, there's almost a light-hearted playfulness here, so casual that you could almost miss all the insightful little moments. I love it, how bored Gin must be in Hueco Mundo, the playing with the recruits that he does here (which I can utterly and completely buy happening in the series itself), the power between both of them, even as they simply stand and watch the Hollows devour each other. I didn't even have to try to see the whole thing in my mind's eye. (Aizen/Gin, except that I would call this almost entirely gen.)

Bleach: Coals and Ink by Branch - I was wandering through the Bleach newsletter and my eye caught on the Rukia/Orihime pairing, because I like the idea, but it's so rarely done that I don't read much of it. But I like Branch's fic and this one was no exception, it's got a very soft, sweet, and a little bit girly feel to it, which works for this pairing, because they are friends and it would be one of the few times Rukia could be softer. The characterization is lovely, even in such a short little scene, and it's just light shoujo-ai, but it's sweet and wonderful and I love hair brushing. <3 (Rukia/Orihime.)

Bleach: lost in transit by incandescens - This was a fun little fic that's silly and has a certain charm to it. The ways to pass the time in Hueco Mundo are probably pretty few and far between and I love the sense of cracked out antics that the author has the Arrancar get up to. It's partly making fun of them/parody, partly just being amusing, and partly a cute Aizen/Gin piece. It flew right by and did not feel like 850 words, wow. (Some Aizen/Gin, it's only vaguely the point.)
