- Bleach - Frat Buddies by Celeste - See, I have this thing for the idea of Shunsui/Ukitake and it just won't go away. So seeing that Celeste had written a fic for them? Why, I had to pounce, of course. Though, one of my favorite things about this fic was the idea of Shunsui and Urahara as drinking buddies, because you know they had to have been. And the way Ukitake tries to fill the role that Urahara left behind, but he can't, because you just can't change your role in someone's life and, ultimately, you wouldn't really want to, because you're best where you are, even if you hurt for the other person... well, yes, I really liked this, because Celeste put in just the right amount of nostalgia, just the right amount of pain, and just the right amount of hope. Especially nice for the Ukitake focus. (Some Shunsui/Ukitake.)

- Bleach - Limit Break by Celeste - So. Uh. I still have this thing for Shunsui/Ukitake and my affection for this story is purely in the sense that I like yaoi. No, really. I like yaoi and I like the pretty images and I like poor Ukitake being so worn out while Shunsui is so... Shunsui in going about doing it again and then toss in a cute ending. I go ♥ for this fic 'cause I still like them so much. Shut up. XP (Shunsui/Ukitake.)

- Bleach - Skirt Chaser by Celeste - I think what floored me about this one is the way it deftly portrays Shunsui's treatment of women in a concept that could have gone so flat or vaguely offensive. There is something precious and beautiful about every woman, the way the fic tailors Shunsui's actions around each of them (something about the way he treated Nemu and Soi Fong and Nanao in this fic just... warms my heart utterly), the way the characterization of Shunsui in this fic was so tight and perfect for me, the way he's so driven to treat them wonderfully without breaking the character, the way it really clicked together with how I saw him in the manga. Plus, I adore the way that Ukitake knows Shunsui so well, the way there's no jealousy there, the way Shunsui's flirting fits together with the relationship he has with Ukitake and neither undoes the other. (Shunsui/Ukitake.)

- Bleach - untitled by Kouri - Celeste was kind enough to point this one out to me and I've been trying to branch out with Bleachfic authors lately and I've always thought Kouri was talented at writing, so that she wrote Shunsui/Ukitake? Well, naturally I had to bounce over and read. And it's a lovely story set just before Rukia's execution, showing the friendship between Shunsui and Ukitake... well, and perhaps a little more. It was a nice, sweet read, the longstanding friendship they have was done nicely and I adored Shunsui wanting to get in trouble with Ukitake. That's real friendship there. XD (Shunsui/Ukitake implied, but rather lightly.)

- Bleach - Between the Lies by The Dream Whisperer - I liked the author's previous fic about Byakuya, so I was intrigued to see that she'd written Shunsui/Ukitake this time around. This is a very solid piece of writing, there's a subtlety and deftness to the writing, but more than that... what the author does best at is writing impactful emotion. The scenes where Ukitake moves through his life and loss and heartache because of his illness, because he will never have children, the way Shunsui watches him and cannot believe the lies he wants to believe, watches him interact with Hitsugaya or Byakuya or Kaien, it comes together and hurts quite a lot. The relationship between Shunsui and Ukitake here is lovely as well, it's almost understated and that just makes it even more what I pine for with these two. Just... yes, every time I read a fic like this, I fall a little further in love with them. (Shunsui/Ukitake.)

- Bleach - Honour and Pride by The Dream Whisperer - More Shunsui/Ukitake fic! Well, not precisely, it's more Ukitake fic with a good dose of Shunsui in it, but I'm still going to count it because it has the vibe of the pairing all through it. Again, the author does well with the emotion of the piece, of the little details of Ukitake's life and his relations with the people around him. Byakuya, Rukia, Shunsui, Kaien, Hitsugaya, Urahara, there's a lovely feeling of connection and background detail that's so much a part of the reason I fell for the Soul Society characters in the first place. And I do really like that Ukitake here is such a... weighted character, there's such depth to him here, it totally feeds my love for the character. (Shunsui/Ukitake sort of implied. Not implied enough to not be gen, though.)

- Bleach - Hearing the Dead by valmora - I think it was Celeste who pointed me towards this author? It took me awhile to get around to reading the fic given how I go in cycles with the Bleach fandom/pairings, but... when I finally did read, I was quietly struck by this take on Ukitake's illness, the vague creepiness that I could believe would mesh together with the original series rather amazingly well. The way the author wrote it was so much of what sold me, there was just a solid... skill in the little turns of phrases as Ukitake was sick, when he got better, when he got sick again. It almost... echoes in the way it should, especially when the author mentions Aizen, which was... almost haunting. Yeah, that's the word I want. And then the soft touch of Shunsui/Ukitake in the mix was a perfect addition as well. Just... yeah, this is how I like them. (Shunsui/Ukitake.)

- Bleach - It's Like by valmora - In a strange way, it's the directness with which this fic tackles the potentially offensive topic (that Ukitake is rather like Shunsui's wife) that makes it so interesting and a strange good read. The view of their relationship from the rest of Soul Society, of the peanut gallery, so to speak, and it's a harsh take, one that's all too easy to see actually happening and the author's use of language in the fic is lovely because it's not using ugly words, instead it's something that people might actually say if they don't really know the people. (Shunsui/Ukitake.)

- Bleach - A Piece of Silk by Hana - There is something about fic that can lean towards either gen or shippy that I have such serious affection for when it comes to a pairing like Shunsui/Ukitake, because it feels so much like how I saw them in the manga itself. This fic deals wonderfully with both characters, making them more than just the surface characters (more than just Ukitake's calm benevolance or Shunsui's drunken happiness), there's both hurt and love and happiness under it all without the author having to push too hard to show these things. It's in the little touches, in the things they don't say or don't do, the way they're really kind of sweet with each other while still having that depth to the characters, still being so them. This was a gorgeous, gorgeous piece for Shunsui/Ukitake, one of the best I've read. (Shunsui/Ukitake.)
