- Psych - 5 Confessions Carlton Lassiter Never Got by sparky77 - I was journalhopping tonight and didn't even intend to get much into live action fandoms, but I remember this author's fic from LOST and thinking she was good and I was intrigued by what she might write for Psych. I was immediately sucked into the ficlets she'd posted in the comments here because her voices for the characters are so good, they're pitch-perfect and she has the characterizations nailed, the sense of humor is brilliant, and even the little pop culture references or Gus and Shawn acting like twelve-year-olds is just... it's so, so fantastic. And I love how much I love Lassiter in these, I love how much I love all of them. I swear, at the end of each one of these three scenes, I had to force myself not to clap my hands in utter delight at how great they were. (No warnings/pairings.)

- Psych - A Lovestruck Romeo Sings an Awkward Serenade by jesshelga - Amanda gave me the link for this fic and I've said this a few times before, but it's still true--I don't particularly feel the need to ship much of anything in Psych, but if I were going to? It would be Lassiter/Juliet all the way. This fic does an utterly marvelous job of capturing Lassiter's personality, the little way he phrases things and the way he thinks, and I love it. I love it because he's clearly winding himself up way too much and clearly a little off in the head, but it's not over the top, it's exactly the way it's done in the series itself and asdlfkajsdlkjas oh, god, these two would be so adorable together and this fic kind of makes me want to ship them a little more seriously. (As the author's notes say: Lassiter/O'Hara, Lassiter/Crazy.)

- Psych - The Case of the Disappearing Teacher by bessemerprocess - I hadn't planned on reading much Psych fic from this year's Yuletide, maybe just one or two of them, but I saw a rec for this fic and was curious enough to go check it out. The asides from the narrative (little bits of info that the characters only find out later or things they don't know) felt very right for the series, if rather overused by even halfway through. But the characterization is delightful and I can just see this sliding right into Shawn's and Gus' childhoods and it says so much about them. XDDD (No warnings/pairings.)

- Psych - Conflict Resolution by fearlessfan - After reading the author's brilliant 30 Rock fic, I saw she'd also written Psych fic and since I was in the mood for it, I decided to give it a shot. And it was a brilliant, brilliant fic with more brilliant, spot-on voices and truly excellent character interaction between Shawn and Lassiter. I had no trouble at all seeing everything perfectly in my mind's eye (and probably couldn't have not pictured the scene perfectly if I'd wanted to) and I do believe I may have clapped my hands in glee once or twice while reading this fic. I love that I really do adore both characters, that they're both sympathizable and flawed, they're both good people, but their conflict (and the attempts to resolve it) are just as brilliantly entertaining as anything I've seen on the show. Dammit, I think I may be become a fan of this fandom. (No warnings/pairings.)

- Psych - Christmas Fruitcakes (a Yuletide Treat) by CaitN - This is a very short little piece, but it's so beautifully Psych that I couldn't help loving it. The pacing and dialogue of the fic slides so easily in between the frames of canon, I could easily picture Shawn trying to impress Julia and having it totally ruined and then Lassiter coming out to chase them off in a beautiful, perfect ending that could have come straight out of the show. XD (No warnings/pairings.)

- Psych - Two Plus Roo by Waldo - One of the best things about this year's Yuletide has been having Psych fics within easy reach, instead of making me go out to find them myself. And I positively just about wriggled around in glee over this fic because it's Shawn and Gus taking care of Chief Vick's baby girl for a few hours and it is both so cute and super hilarious. The pacing of the jokes, the pop culture references, the dorky BFFery with Shawn and Gus, the spot-on characterization, even the sweet, adorable moment at the end, all of it was just utterly fantastic. I am pleased with this fandom! <3 (No warnings/pairings.)

- Psych - Five superpowers the Psych cast doesn't have + Five times Shawn almost told Lassiter his secret, but didn't by lucia_tanaka - I don't know that I would have read this fic without having had a rec for it or the catchy hook of a summary (five super powers the Psych cast doesn't have? five times Shawn almost told the truth? these are things I am very interested in!) because I tend to be a lot more on the gen side of things (not that I don't see where Lassiter/Shawn fans are coming from), but... well, it's still a fic I'm glad I read. The use of superpowers was really kinda cool and I loved the various ones the author chose for each character, I loved the use of details that made me totally able to picture the whole thing. If you're violently allergic to Psych slash, you might want to give this one a pass, despite that it's very light (with the exception of the end), but if you don't mind that, this was a really cool set of scenes that were really clever. (Mostly gen, some Lassiter/Shawn.)

- Pysch - When Gus Met Shawn (and She-Ra) by jesshelga - One of the best things about the Psych is the fun pop-culture references that Shawn and Gus are constantly slinging around, but it takes a good author to have them strewn throughout a fic without feeling like they're trying to hard, and this fic got that balance down so well. I love the dweeby friendship between these two, I love that there's a very real friendship here even when they're teasing each other, you see why they get along so well. The author captured their voices perfect, like the scene could have come right out of the series itself, right down to Shawn's rather dorky confession at the end, which fit perfectly with the show. Just. Funny and clever and adorable and all things a Psych fic should be. ♥ (No warnings/pairings.)

- Psych - Hypothetically Speaking by isis-sg1 - While I know it would probably be the end of the show (if even then) before Shawn would ever confess the truth about how he knows so many things, it's still something that fascinates me to see played with sometimes. Especially when it means Captain Vick gets to be good at her job and put a few of the pieces together and yet be cool enough to be okay with the way things are. So this conversation between Karen Vick and Shawn Spencer, spoken in hypthoetical phrasing, is a really interesting look at both of them, what she can obviously see about him and what she wants to know and why she lets the situation stay. It's just a short little piece, but it helped tremendously with that itch I have to know people's reactions if they found out. <3 (No warnings/pairings.)

- Psych - 20 x 20 by s_c - It's sort of hard to believe that this story is apparently about 25,000 words long, because it just flew by. Despite that the story is written in the Twenty Things format (eventually to be 20 chapters long, though it's only up to 8 chapters so far), they're incredibly satisfying chapters, each one could probably stand on its own. I love that it captures everything I want from Psych fic, it's both hilarious and yet poingant, sometimes even sad, at all the right moments. Reading 20 things Gus did without Shawn and the puppy he gets or the 20 reasons Henry hates that damn bike of Shawn's, they actually got to me, made my fangirl heart ache. But then there's Shawn and Gus' friendship being adorably dorky or twenty theories on Shawn's mother or the super fantastic (and completely spot-on) twenty times Carlton Lassiter is glad to have Juliet O'Hara as his partner. It runs the gamut of what I wanted from the fandom, crams so much into those little scenes and yet never feels manic or like any scene should have been expanded upon. It's remarkably satisfying and perfect just the way it is. ♥ (No warnings/pairings, not really.)

- Psych - Comforts of the Miserable by piecesofalice - You know, I've not read that much Psych fic for this pairing (mostly because I don't think a lot of it exists) but there's still been enough of them (in fandom and in the show itself) to have built up a lot of UST for me, so a fic like this was really, really welcome. It's around an R rating, but I don't think I'd have wanted it to go higher (at least not with this fic or just yet) because it was perfect the way it was, the dynamic between them was delightful and full of so much chemistry and was spot-on, genuinely well-written. There were several points that I wanted to quote, just little descriptions of the two of them that could have come from the show itself, and made the whole fic so easy to see. I just. *flails* These two are rapidly becoming an OTP for me and there's fic! Good fic! With actual resolution to the tension! And it's even better that it's really sharp writing! And so smart, too! ♥ (Lassiter/Juliet, R-rating.)

- Psych - In Sickness by piecesofalice - This fic starts out with the line: The first time Carlton Lassiter called in sick to work, Juliet O'Hara peered out the window of the Santa Barbara Police Department to see if the Apocalypse had come. There was very little change a fic with an opening line like that wasn't going to be totally awesome and it so very much was. It's got a great Juliet voice and POV, it's so easy to hear her voice with this fic! It's got fantastic little details woven into the writing all over the place, the totally normal and mundane things that don't mean anything else but totally normal things, that say so very much about their relationship dynamic. And it's so cute because Lassiter is his usual grumpy self and Juliet is her usual determined self and somehow this makes it work, just like I so badly wanted to read about. So much love here. ♥ (Lassiter/Juliet.)

- Psych - Five Ways Shawn Met Gus (Depending on Who's Asking) by thecomfychair - "Prison," Shawn said darkly. The summary/first line of this fic just made me smile so much that I had to click on the fic and I'm really glad I did, because it's a delightful series of stories about how Shawn and Gus first met each other, depending on who's asking, and each one is hilarious and perfectly told so that I could just see the characters in my mind's eye. The dialogue is spot-on and the writing is cleanly readable and the whole thing just wound up being super-fun. I laughed aloud at at least three places, too. ♥ (No warnings/pairings.)

Psych/Supernatural: Burnt Ash and Golden Eyes by trolllogicfics - Seriously, this fic had me at "Psych/Supernatural crossover" because that just sounded too much fun to miss out on and boy was this a fun read. It's actually sort of creepy and there's obviously some dark stuff going on, but it never loses that light-hearted Psych touch or Shawn's particular way of dealing with everything. It has so many cool little touches that blend the two series together and it's an awesome concept (Shawn being one of the ones chosen by the yellow-eyed-demon, waking up in that ghost town with the others, after he kinda realizes he has some sort of abilities) and seeing the Supernatural events through Shawn's eyes is A+++. I love how... plausible I found this and the pop-culture references and the moments of interaction between Shawn Spencer and Sam Winchester. Just. Everything about this was really fun and really awesome. *thumbs up* (No warnings/pairings.)

Psych: Flamingos by s_c - I will say that the last line of this fic hit me as being kind of off, but the rest of this short little Psych fic, where somehow Shawn torments Henry with lawn ornamentation? Fantastic. I love it because it's one of those little pre-series things you can see as happening exactly like this and Henry'll never know quite how it happened, but the image of him totally snapping over it is great. (No warnings/pairings.)
