- Full Metal Alchemist - Equivalent Trade by Tormalyne - Oh, I didn't realize how very badly I was in need of FMA fic, especially Roy/Ed fic, until I read this story. It was very, very cute, keeping that sense of chemistry (ie, Ed being annoyed as all fuck by Mustang, whom you can just feel the glee coming off of even if you can't pinpoint a specific moment where he crosses the line XD) and I thought it was nicely in character. I giggled at several points (because Ed is so cute when he's being bothered by Roy), was very, very amused at the clever ways with which Roy found to annoy poor Edward, and this was a very nice way to start off my FMA fanfic experience. I need more, please. Now. (Some Roy/Ed.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - One Step Closer by Meg - Oh, this was such a nice treat to find, a subtle, insightful story that was just a little bit hinty with the Roy/Ed, but could just as easily have been gen. (Not that I'm not screaming for waiting for the yaoi, too. *coughs* >_>) Edward's angst (*hugs the poor dear*) was touched on beautifully here, as was that he had an idea of what Roy was doing, but dismissed the idea as stupid anyway. And Roy, darling Roy, who's so flakey and fruity, but knows what people needs and actually cares under that flakey exterior, which came through very nicely here. Toss in some lovely writing and this was a wonderful addition to the FMA fic out there. (No real warnings/pairings.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Air Feeds Fire by Branch - *lets out a long, slow breath after reading this* This is what I needed from FMA right now, this is what will help ease that gnawing craving I'd been having ever since falling for the series. This story is about a moment that has to eventually come in Edward's future and the way it was handled was a lot of what I ask for from this idea. The writing was lovely, the characterizations sharp and clever, just how I see these characters, and the sex wonderful (if oddly short ^_~)(which was really my main crit with this story, it felt like another scene was needed to build them up to this, because I don't think either would by the type for a one night stand, not really). I was especially pleased with both Roy and Ed because they could both so easily become cliche, but they weren't here, Edward was still himself, yet stripped believably of so much of his frustration with Roy. And darling, darling Roy, caring in his own way, but not a secretly schmoopy character, the hints of his own darker side lovely. I needed this and I'm so glad to have it. (RoyxEd, graphic content.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Walled by Vikki - There are two major things I love about this story. One, is that it's smutfic. I loooooove smutfic. Deeply and truly. Especially when it's hot smutfic, as this one was. The other thing I loved about this story was that the banter was fucking brilliant in how clever it was, I could just hear the characters saying their lines. And that's what sends me over the moon with smutfic--sex is always good, but when you can make it IC sex, when you can weave little character insights into it, to add to the writing? I love that. There are certain facets you can't easily reveal about characters that you can show through sex and I thought this story capitalized very nicely on that. Plus, I loved the line it walked--this wasn't random, one-night-stand, just-using-each-other sex, there were genuine connections and affection there, but it wasn't schmoopy love, either. They never expressed sweet sentiments (....I can't even picture that, yo >_o), they were never sappy. And that Roy never gave Edward a single inch? Never backed down from his teasing and control of the situation? Loved that. *hanyan~* I am a happy, happy fangirl now. (RoyxEd, graphic content.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Circumstances, Gyre, This Time, and Rough by Branch - I admit, the meta content of these stories keeps throwing me, largely because FMA is such a small fandom, I'm not sure it was ready to go meta yet. (Meta works better on a fandom that's huge and has more of a basis to play off.) It's still odd to see the characters referring The Author or their roles in the story one minute and then getting pulled into the story the next. Beyond that, though, I'm really liking the author's takes on the characters, especially their banter and Roy's... sort of... charming bastard attitude. The way he looks at Edward, the way Ed reluctantly and grudgingly succumbs to Roy's proddings feels very in character to me, I've been really impressed with the author's talent for their chemistry.

Roy is that delicate balance between oversexed (if charming ^_~) bastard and caring authority figure that's... not really entirely either one thing or the other, but a complicated mix of the two. Edward is fiery and hot-headed, but never, never stupid. ....which would be my way of once again repeating that I really liked the dynamic the author built here. The writing is smooth and very readable, the sex having a point (or at least being insightful sex, which is my favorite kind) as well as lovely and I really like that all of the stories together are combining to make... *waves hands, gropes for words* something bigger than each of the pieces is alone. Sort of like a puzzle that the author is slowly putting together. I love it when authors can do that. (RoyxEd, graphic content.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Therapy by Vikki - This is one of those stories that I desperately wanted ever since the idea started rolling around my head--what's Al's view of what goes on between the Colonel and his brother. Oh, nothing so cliche as if it's right or wrong, but how it affects his brother, does it worry him? Does it make him happy that Roy's able to piss him off so badly that Ed can't even think of how guilty he feels? And this fic is a wonderful, subtle story that lightly deals with the idea and has fabulous characterization. Vikki weaves little details in (like Al being able to stand there all day, since he is a suit of armor and all) and has such a fantastic bead on Al's character that I could HEAR him speaking. Al's observations are wonderful, he notes what he needs to and doesn't need to know more than that... and the way Roy treats Al is just beautiful and wonderful. I think this may be one of my favorites of hers yet. *sparkles* (Hints of slash, but not entirely the point of the story.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Return by Vikki - I will state upfront that this fic is not going to be for everyone, especially not those who tend to shy away from the 'reluctant uke' or dominating seme stories. I don't think it's spoiling anything to say that the point of this story is to bed Edward over the back of the sofa and for Roy to have his way with him. Hard. If that's not your cuppa, move along now, no hard feelings. XD That said, I really, really liked this story because 1) there are a lot of little things woven into the story, especially that Roy is never a complete bastard, he shows he genuinely likes and is fond of Edward through subtle gestures. Y'know. Sort of. XD And 2) because it is unashamed smut and caters to the just-this-side-of-something-approaching-kinky yaoi fangirl in me. I freely admit to having an occasional power plays kink like this and this story appeals to me. *___* I like it because it shows just how badly Edward can get to Roy without even knowing it, yet the Colonel never lets things get out of his control. And I liked it because it's unashamed, graphic smut. ....oh, I mentioned that part already? Hmm. (RoyxEd, graphic content.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - The Day the Colonel Died by Vikki - He didn't die of natural causes, oh no - the old man clung to life tenaciously. Even when six rounds of a revolver had been emptied into his chest by a certain not-at-all-short State Alchemist. There is a running gag between Vikki and I that Ed is going to kill us Roy for all the horrible, horrible, nasty things Roy does to him our little skits and her fic. And I believe this is Vikki's way of pacifying Edward a bit so that he won't kill her quite so painfully for "Return". XD XD XD That said, this makes me laugh so much, because I can JUST SEE THIS (it's parody, obviously, but I can just see it anyway XD XD XD), because Roy is absolutely perfect here. It's only a shame that Ed wasn't able to drag it out longer. ^_~ (Light hints of Roy/Ed, but they're more meta than anything.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - untitled by Lily - This was... well, sweet. Sort of. Well, the Roy/Ed version of sweet, I guess...? ^_~ The writing and characterization were solid (even if they could have used a little bit of reworking in places to tone down a few of the more... mm, easy characterization things... then again, I'm one to talk >_>), but, overall, by the time I was done with the story, I was satisfied with the way it had come out and I had no major faults with the author. Plus, I really liked the idea of Roy coming out to sit with Ed for a few minutes (while Ed waits for Al) and bringing hot chocolate with him... but still being an annoying bastard about it. *hearts* And Roy wrapping his scarf around Ed (Which wasn't sappy! Honest! Which I expected it to be, but it wasn't! *sparkles*) still makes me wibble with fangirl love. Plus, the ending was fun and genuinely funny. So, I was very happy with this fic. ^_^v (Some light Roy/Ed.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Ed in a dress drabble by White Cat - (For lack of anything better to call it....) You know, half of me feels like I shouldn't like the whole Ed-in-a-dress concept, because I don't usually care for boys in drag, but... dammit, Ed's so funny when he's spazzing over something like this. <333 Add to that that the writing is lovely, the charcterization also sparkles like mad-crazy, and you've got yourself a fic that didn't make me twitch at all. Because this IS how Ed would react to the situation, because the writing put the scenario perfectly into my head (I love Roy trying to walk in only to get a metal foot planted in the middle of his chest XD XD), and because of the very, very light Roy/Ed hints. This was just fun. XD (Some light Roy/Ed maybe.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - A Night Out (chapter one) by Vikki - You know, thank god for Vikki. She feeds my FMA love with writing like this--pretty smut that's just the right combination of nice, but intense. She also tailors her smut to the characters, which it something that gives me happy fangasms, because not nearly enough people write in character smut. Her banter between Roy and Ed is fabulous, just sparkling and clever, which is something that really helps with the whole IC-smut thing. *niko* Plus? The actual sex? Very nice, very hot. It's Roy being the charming bastard that he is and Ed being the hyper-reactive chibi that he is, combined with their usual chemistry. And this rec sucks, but you should read anyway. *nodnod* (Roy/Ed, graphic content.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Too Close to the Sun and Mercy by Vikki - Often times, I feel authors jump onto the AU bandwagon too soon, because, for me, AUs are more intriguing once the canon events have started to feel a bit... gone over. And FMA is still such a new series that with most cases, I wouldn't feel an AU is necessary. However, this particular one... I gladly, gladly make an exception for because I'm so wildly in love with both the premise and the execution so far. There are a lot of things for me to gush about with this particular AU, the main two being that it's done so well and that it hits every button I have, in all the right ways.

Vikki is a talented author and the way she's writing the story proper makes me sparkle with love, because she has this way of working in all the little background details without disrubting the flow of the story. Which is an incredibly important thing for someone building an AU. Plus? It makes sense. It's not an exact copy of the series itself, but neither is it wholly removed and unrecognizable; it strikes the perfect balance between the two, in my opinion. These are still the characters I know, just set in different circumstances. Plus, I admit I totally have a kink for the light hinting of dominance/submission vibe that's going on here--it's not terribly strong, just enough that I (who tend to be a very vanilla fangirl--and proud of it, dammit XD) find it so incredibly appealing. Much, much love and, dammit, I need more of this one. ♥ (Roy/Ed.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - And Return to Nothing (Prologue) by Spinny Roses - I should probably wait to rec this one until one or two more chapters have been put out, but screw that, I wanna rec it now. ^_~ The concept intrigues me, especially since the idea is based off the one Vikki is writing (I only help with the plotting and the smut side stories! XD) and so far te story has genuinely roused my curiosity, especially with the way things are playing out differently. And something about the way Roy picked Ed up that night and turned his head away to not look... that made me wibble with love. (I assume future Roy/Ed, but nothing happens in the prologue, really.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Temper by Shi Lin - There were a lot of things I adored about this piece--the usage of colors to enhance the atmosphere of the piece, the dull, aching mood Shi Lin set here, the descriptions of Ed, the subtle way Roy looked at Ed, the way this brought to mind and re-brought up the feelings of hurt I had for both Ed and Al after episode 15--but what really got me is the overall picture and way things combined, even in such a short piece. Roy's view of Edward (both in how much Roy cares, in his own way, and how he sees how brittle Ed is at this moment) was wonderfully done and I just... I wanted to hug both of them so badly afterwards, even if this wasn't really a sad piece, per say. (As the author says, blink-and-you'll-miss-it Roy/Ed.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Ever by Branch - *purr* There's just something about a long, well-plotted, wonderfully written FMA fic that I adore; because the fandom is so small right now, there's not a long of long fic, so my delight at just seeing this one posted was already humming and clicking like mad to download the fic, but actually reading it was even more fun. The highlight of this story... hmm, well, actually, there were two highlights for me. The first I noticed was that there was an actual plot here that didn't revolve around any romantic machinations (they're barely even noticable until the end, and, even if I felt another couple of chapters to help the progression at the end would have helped--the romance part went really quickly, I'm delighted to have a First Time fic I can believe), about learning about politics and power plays. The second was that the characterizations were wonderful--I especially loved the way the author wrote both Roy and Winry, they really stood out for me.

The actions and reactions from everyone felt right, Roy's plotting and ability to think ahead and judge people's reactions were beautifully used in the fic (especially in the way he found all sorts of ways to teach Ed--which is something I love, because Roy may be a bastard sometimes, but he's certainly willing to help Ed become stronger), really going hand in hand with the plot of the story. And, I dunno, Winry forcing Ed to go shopping just made me sparkle because this was Winry done absolutely wonderfully. ♥ And, of course, Ed was darling--short-tempered, brilliant, and someone who cares a lot. The progression from not-really-a-child to someone that Roy truly saw as being capable of being a partner was wonderfully done and it delights me to have a First Time story that I can believe. *hanya~n* ....wow, I gush. >_o (Roy/Ed, some light warning for chapter 14, but I'd really label it R more than NC-17.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Rare by Branch - I admit, I stopped to read this one in the middle of reading "Ever", but in a lot of ways, that actually made it more fun, because the slowly building UST of that one needed an outlet and this soft little PWP was very nice for that. The author's smut is very... hmm, soft and romantic without being girly, which is something I really like to see a lot of times, it's the kind of writing that usually makes me sigh happily and satisfies that need to scratch the itch of too much UST. Plus, the characters sounded like themselves to my ears and the writing is smooth and readable and we all know what a geek-on I get for that. XD (Roy/Ed, some content warning, maybe around an R, but some might consider it NC-17.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Under Cover by Branch - *sporfles* Oh, this was beautifully done--I liked that there was a rather believable reason for Ed to be in a dress, but it was the characterization that sparkled and won me over here. It was just... everything was hysterical. From Ed's reactions to Roy's reactions to Hawkeye's reactions (which were beautiful ♥) to Clara's role in the story. I was giggling my way through the entire fic, it was just one beautiful ride of amusement. And wonderfully written, too, the writing was just perfect for the concept, the jokes were genuinely funny and I totally, totally bought the characterizations. *goes to reread and giggle more* Plus, the ending. *dies* (Vague hints of Roy/Ed, but it's UST more than anything.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Morning by Branch - (Note: This is a follow-up to Ever, so it'd be very beneficial to have read that one first.) You know, I spent the night reading FMA fic and it's difficult to explain why I enjoyed it so much, other than to say that it's stories like this one that left me feeling sated with the series. Sometimes I itch, itch, itch for more, but there's not a fic out there that really scratches the itch the right way, but this one... combined with the author's other works tonight are leaving me in a very happy puddle of fangirl goo right now. I very much like the author's take on Roy and Ed's evolving relationship, I like the way she's progressing it forward in a smooth and natural-feeling way (my one quibble is that I'm not sure Ed and Roy could admit to love, but it's a small quibble because I thought it was done in a very nice way), I fucking love her sense of humor (Winry trying to needle Ed about his relationship with Roy was beautiful), and the writing is lovely to read. Excuse me while I float off in a happy cloud of fangirl bliss. ^_~ (Roy/Ed, one moment of content warning, but more PG-ish overall.)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Library Rules by Meg - I think what I liked most about this fic was the, well, rules of the library and how they somehow fit with the view I have of the FMA world, especially with the way Ed (who spends so much time in libraries) has such an understanding and accordance with them. (I especially liked the mention of how every has their favorite spot in the library... which, yes, I've been known to do myself quite often. >_>) Plus, the dialogue in this one was sparkling and clever, and the final scene with Roy and Ed was touchingly sweet and subtle. One of those little things that means so much but isn't a huge, giant display. I love those. ♥ (Blink-and-you'll-miss-it Roy/Ed hints?)

- Full Metal Alchemist - Sticky and Wet by Branch - Like most other people watching this fandom unfold, I've noticed that there's a lot of smut (Dude. So not complaining here. *sparkles*) in the fandom and I tend to think it's because there's a lot of UST between Roy and Ed that the fangirls are feeling and trying to work through with all the smut. Which is why seeing fics like this make me a happy, squee'ing fangirl, because it makes watching their interaction in the series a little less tension-filled as a fan. Plus, it doesn't hurt that the author's writing is very smooth, easily readable with a nice flow to it, and she writes some really nice banter between the characters. These two stories are the kind that... I enjoy reading, the kind that pull me into the fandom and has some really good lines like: Roy was usually a playful lover, and that suited Ed just fine. He could get introspection and soul-searching any time, he didn't need them in bed. XD (Roy/Ed, some graphic content.)
