From a Seed by theorytale, tony/loki + avengers, NSFW, implied pregnant!loki, humor, 3k
Basicaly, Loki bursts into the avengers mansion and forces a potted plant into Tony's hands and says 'this is your child' and storms out. In which Tony finds himself in possession of a houseplant and so very, very many unanswered questions.
The prompt/summary for this fic had me immediately diving for this fic, because, well. And this is another fic that does an amazing job of capturing movieverse Tony's almost manic sort of humor, the hundred miles an hour commentary in words and thoughts, but all of it being so sharp and hilariously funny. It's Tony dealing with the weirdness of having slept with Loki, so now they have a child together, a potted plant that he becomes rather attached to, and I feel like a lesser author would not have made this work, but in this fic? Oh, it totally lives up to the potential of the idea. Plus, the ending is AMAZING. And perfect. So, so perfect. I was a little wary of reading a Tony/Loki fic, but I can't lie, I really kind of enjoyed it a lot and it was not unhot. *__*

The Family that Trolls Together, Rolls Together by theorytale, tony/loki + tony/pepper, humor, 3.2k
This is a sequel to "From a Seed", which should be read first.
Loki and Tony are never going to have a conventional relationship, but they have a child, and visitation days, and 'asshole' is just a term of endearment, right?
Everything I loved about the first fic, I loved about this fic as well. I love the way Pepper wasn't forgotten here, the way Tony/Loki was worked into his life while Tony/Pepper was still very important as well, even if the focus of the story wasn't on them. But also! OH MY GOD LOKI ALL MY FEELS AND LAUGHTER. Tony's voice continues to be razor-sharp perfection here, but it's even better when it's once again pitted against Loki, who has even sharper wits. Reading about Tony and Loki's weird relationship, their child together (because Norse mythology's mpreg being worked into The Avengers is AMAZING, you guys, I could just weep with laughter in every fic in this series), which is sort of oddly sweet, while being hilariously venemous, just. Ugh. Feelings! For everyone! And non-stop laughter! Goddammit, I wasn't supposed to branch out with pairings! But now I could almost ship Tony/Loki. Especially this Loki who is SO WEIRD sometimes, but in a way that totally makes sense to Asgardians.

Performance Issues by verizonhorizon, tony/loki + avengers, NSFW, humor, 3.6k
Tony Stark’s very presence is intoxicating. Or, the one in which Tony’s arc reactor makes Loki drunk.
So, I read the summary for this fic and I was pretty much YES, THAT SOUNDS LIKE AN EXCELLENT IDEA. Fic like this is why I keep coming back to Tony/Loki fic, because some of these fics are utterly, stunningly amazing. Tony's voice is absolutely perfect in this fic, the almost manic edge to it as he interacts with Loki of all gods, who is terrifying and yet hilarious when he's intoxicated by whatever it is that the arc reactor is putting out. There are lines in this fic that left me positively shrieking with laughter, because Tony's the one they keep sending in to deal with him, and even Thor's taking amusement in all of this, and I love love love this author for keeping the weight of all these characters, for keeping their brilliantly sharp edges, all while writing the most hilarious fic I've read in ages. Fuck this fucking ship, especially because of all the gorgeous fucking snark and insults they hurl at each other. I don't want another ship in this fandom that's only going to break my heart! But, goddammit, this is why I keep coming back to this ship--for fic like this.

In the Whisper of the Wind by reason_says, tony/loki + background thor/loki & steve/tony, humor, 3k
Loki is everyone, Loki is everything. Loki is a nuisance.
SCREECHING. Oh, my god, Loki setting out to seduce Tony, always a different person approaching him, never knowing quite who is whom, IT IS AMAZING. Tony's so... Tony. And Loki is so... Loki. They are the greatest together, especially when Tony's kind of freaked out and Loki is just weird because he's Asgardian and, you know, Loki. The banter is fantastic, every moment of this fic had me smiling or laughing, especially as Loki grinds Tony down until finally he just fucks him to get it over with already and even Loki's reasons for all of this are just so... Loki. I loved everything about this.

Ice and Dust and Light by hannahrhen, tony/loki + thor, NSFW, pregnant!loki, 22k
Loki and Tony Stark negotiate a relationship after an accidental pregnancy (and this author's completely accidental mpreg!). Highlights include sweetness, angst, Thor being an adult, and, of course, copious amounts of lust.
Part 01-05: I tore through this entire series in one sitting, which is helped by how they're all 1 to 2k words long (and there are five stories, so there's just over 8k words here) but also because I just could not stop reading once I started. As someone who does recs, there's always a half-thought at the back of my mind for how I want to frame a rec while I'm reading, I'll take note of certain things I want to remember or that punched me in the feelings especially hard. This series, with each and every single one of these fics, there's at least that one line that I desperately wanted to quote because it made me crack the fuck up with sheer hilarity or because it was an especially good insight into the characters. I desperately wanted to quote them in order to draw more readers in, but I just... if I got started, I wouldn't be able to stop.

But I enjoyed this series for more than just the quotable lines (though, that was a delight), but also because the author does mix the occasional bit of angst in, yet without going over the top about it, it's more bittersweet than anything. Loki being basically tethered to Thor in his punishment, Thor being a caring and kind older brother who really is trying to help Loki and yet give him some space and respect him at the same time (which is only mentioned in the one fic, but I just adored that one for how clearly Thor loved his brother--but also Thor being a protective big brother in his own way! And Tony's recounting of how he figured out what was up with Loki by how Thor reacted! Perfect.), all of that was good for me. But also! Loki getting knocked up with Tony's kid is an interesting twist on the usual pregnant!Loki trope and he's so... Loki about it.

There's also a great scene in the second fic (which is chronologically set before the first, but you can read these in the order they're numbered) where Loki goes through all the possible people he could seduce to start using in his plans (choosing from the Avengers because he's got to make it at least interesting for himself a;lsdkfj;alks yes) and, despite that it was about him discarding them all as possibilities, it was lovely for the way it reminded me, yeah, wow, I actually do ship Loki with almost every single Avenger. Anyway, this is a series that comes in easily readable sized fics that make it way too easy to just go, "Oh... just one more....", they have a couple of sex scenes that are really hot and great imagery, and they have excellent, excellent dialogue. And a lot of feels all up inside me. I couldn't ask for more.
Part 06: Oh, this series continues to rapidly climb its way up my heart with everything it goes--this time, Tony notices that Loki's pregnant, but Loki hasn't said anything and things threaten to fall apart, but thankfully Thor's there just enough to nudge Tony back in the right direction. And you have no idea how perfect that makes this series for me. I love love love Tony/Loki when it comes with Thor support, a Thor who understands his brother pretty well and has this way of making you feel better, because Thor&Tony interaction is fucking excellent. And it makes the Tony&Loki interaction all the better, because they could be pretty fucked up on their own, especially when they both won't just say the things they should be saying, which says so much about their issues right there, so thorny and tangled on both sides (and I love that they're so similar here, but they're not just mirror images of each others' issues, which is how this pairing works best for me), they both get too tangled up in their own thoughts and sharp edges, which is beautifully done here.

I started reading this fic/series for the adorableness of knocked up!Loki, but I actually find that I love it just as much for the relationship and how it hits all my buttons in this universe. The characterization of Loki, so difficult to read, so many different and complicated reasons he has for the things he does and doesn't do (Loki not hiding the pregnancy, but not saying anything, either, is pitch perfect for him) is delicious and, oh, I could totally sit down and immediately read another 10k words of this.
Part 07: Oh, I adored this ridiculously. The author does such a beautiful job of balancing the thornier issues these characters have, the complicated relationship that of course they would have, and that it's not a tragedy full of angst. Loki is difficult to read and I love that this Tony doesn't really quite know how to handle it, but neither does he flail around like a bull in a china shop of emotional issues. I love love love this Tony and the way he doesn't quite know what to say, so instead focuses on other things, even as he's clearly thinking about Loki and their kid. That worked so well for me!

The other thing I love about this fic is that, as prickly and difficult as Loki is, he's a wonderful parent and their first child clearly adores him and, oh, my heart when the little moppet is sleeping on him or walking with him to the kitchen for a snack, it's just domestic enough to satisfy me. The ending is perfect as well, that moment that just touched my heart for how they're inching forward, how they'll get there eventually, but the journey is going to be difficult and not without its bumps. But sweet and wonderful at the same time. Best best best.
Part 08: There's pretty much nothing about this fic that I didn't love. Loki taking off to have their second kid, that Tony Lojacked him, that Tony goes after him, that there's banter laid over real feelings, that this pairing is just pure delight and charisma here. Oh, sure, I'm weak to Loki with kids, but it's the way the author has with the really sharp, genuinely clever and funny dialogue that isn't just hilarious but also gives insight into the characters, that's where the fic really sings for me. The summary lines are probably my favorite (so, so perfectly Tony) but the whole thing is just grand, they're so very easy to hear in RDJ's voice. Like, I can barely even do a servicable rec for it because it hits my joy buttons too cleanly and is one of those fics where I don't secretly pine for anything else. No, the Tony/Loki here is perfect. Well, okay, I lie. Uncle Thor helping them raise brothers (as they're both wary of being total shit at it and Thor's, like, a million times better by this point) was something I pined for. But, other than that? Perfection.
Part 09: Oh, this fic was really good for me. I snapped it up as soon as I was done reading the previous fic, intrigued by Tony and Loki's kid being taken and how they would react to it--which is one of those ideas that's so intriguing and has to be done with a careful and deft hand in order to measure up to the potential of the idea. And I really think this fic did that for me, especially with the set-up previous to the kidnapping, showing the boys' lives and how protective Loki was of them, but also how he appreciated what Tony and the rest of the Avengers brought to the table (and, oh, Thor being frustrated and angry that they weren't more public about how they were Loki's kids, but kept the secret because Loki agreed to it, it was just a tiny moment in the background, but that did my heart such good). I really love this dynamic and little family they're building here! But, oh, when Loki is ragingly furious at anyone who would dare harm his child, how he reacts to that, how Tony reacts to Loki's reaction--all of it is gorgeous and perfect. It's intense (and violent) and the way the author writes them here... there's all the usual stuff (hilarity and fantastic voices that allow me to picture RDJ and Tom Hiddleston wonderfully and babies!!) but also that this is how Tony and Loki work, for me. So satisfying and good.
Part 10: While I am sorry to see this series go (though, there is happily some potential for more bits and pieces in the timeline in places), this was a lovely, perfect end to one of my very favorites for this pairing. As much as I love Tony and Loki with the kids, I also love that the fic ends on the note that it does, where they're not sappy and it doesn't necessarily have to be a love story (except that maybe it kind of is and, oh, this is their love story that I want for them) and Loki may not have Tony forever, but it's real and important while it happens and I love that that's touched on in the fic because, yes, yes, that's how this pairing works for me here. Sometimes they can find a way around that in fic, but a lot of times they can't, so dealing with it can be difficult, but it's so, so perfect here, where the author strikes a balance between sweet and just a touch bittersweet. The focus in the end on that this mattered and that there was so much that came from their time together, yes, good, perfect.

That they have kids together, that they discuss having a third child, that Loki suggests, well, this time you deal with the pregnancy shit and Tony's reaction to that, all of that is just delicious, delicious bonus. This fic series started out by giving me Tony/Loki kids and I loved the FrostIron fandom all the more for that, but ultimately I loved their dynamic here, both in the way it was presented (the insights into their characters) and what it means to each of them in the scope of their lives, their lifespans being so drastically different. This is one of those writers who... everything just feels right, I feel settled and complete and satisfied with the Tony/Loki relationship when I read it here, and that is a wonderful feeling.

Mutually Beneficial by hannahrhen, tony/loki + other marvel characters, arranged marriage, 9.6k
Tony was A-OK with being labeled "Midgard’s finest” ... until it meant being offered up in marriage to a wackjob God of Mischief.
Chapters 01-03: I let out the most undignified shriek when I saw this fic. That and grabby hands. TONY/LOKI ARRANGED MARRIAGE FIC BY AN AUTHOR I LOVE. Let me at that right this instant. And, boy, did it not disappoint! It's hilarious and every time a new chapter was posted (which there were three of, as of the time of this rec), I didn't bother waiting to put it on my reader, nope, I read that sucker the instant I opened the tab. And then proceeded to smile so hard my face hurt with every scene. It's a beautiful mix between a little bit cracky, but still so perfectly able to hear the characters' voices that I'm taking it seriously. It's the kind of fic that's just pure joy to me and what I wish the FrostIron fandom would have more of! Give me all the amazing tropes like pregnant!Loki and intersex!Loki and arranged marriage fic!!

But it's more than just that it's a favorite trope of mine, it also has some amazing lines. When I got to “Congratulations, Tony,” Fury said, finally offering a flat-out grin as he leaned back in his chair. “You made quite an impression on the God of Mischief. Loki asked for you special. And Odin wants his baby boy to get what he wants.” that's when I was fucking sold for life. The implication that Loki is a spoiled little shit that his family loves? GIVE. GIIIIIIIVE. GIVE ME THAT. And Fury finding this hi-fucking-larious? Seriously, my face hurts from the smiling. And chapter three!! The conversation with Pepper! IT WAS A DREAM COME TRUE, because I'm always a little touchy on how Tony/Pepper is treated in FrostIron fic, but, oh, that was perfect.

Basically, this fic is everything I could have asked for and then some. I want to write ridiculous love letters to it, that's how much I love it already. And, no, seriously, my face hurts. p.s. fuck coherency, I don't need it for this rec.
Chapters 04-06: With most fic, I'm able to wait until I put it on my reader and then curl up in bed or on the sofa to read first. But this one? No, I couldn't wait, I opened this up and settled in to read immediately because as;ldkfjaslks favorite trope, ahhhh. Chapter 4 was amazing for the conversation between Tony and Sif, which is one of the reasons to read arranged marriage fic in the first place, the trolling that Sif (and Loki, even from a distance) can do to Tony! I know there was at least one time where I had to pause in reading just to laugh because it cracked my shit up. I mean, as soon as I read, "Or, Sif introduces Tony to the Asgard equivalent of the vagina dentata." I was already pretty much crying with laughter--TROLLING ASGARDIANS ARE THE BEST.

And then chapter 5 is the wedding where Tony's friends are actually pretty great and chapter 6 had so many great jokes that offended Tony because they were the easy joke and, oh god I just about cried at all the Dickens references. The first one just sent me into fits of laughter and that's why I am so glad this fic exists. I love Loki being a spoiled, evil little shit and I love jokes about Tony being jilted at the altar and I love jokes about all the culture differences and I fucking love arranged marriages. FrostIron fandom, you are that much more complete in my heart now.

A Lesson in Jotun Sexuality by shannonknits, tony/loki, NSFW, in heat!loki, 3.1k
Loki had tried to explain what exactly going into heat entailed once, but Tony only caught bits and pieces of the explanation, too distracted by the sight of Loki’s fingers buried in his own ass. But Tony didn’t need details, he knew exactly how to handle a sex-desperate Loki when presented with one.
I'm not sure I even know how to begin to write a rec for this because, jfc, that was over 3k words of totally filthy porn that was the greatest thing I read all day. The author does a fantastic job of just... going for the trope they're embracing here, with Loki in heat and how that drives him to want more and more and more, which Tony enjoys as much as Loki does. What makes this even better than just that it's delicious porn is that sense of enjoyment and delight I got from it! But mostly, wow, that is really satisfying porn.

It's not just a few paragraphs of it, it's pages and pages of a proper and thorough fucking, complete with that snarky edge that Tony and Loki have with each other and Loki being a bossy shit as he tells Tony just how to fuck him. Not that he keeps his cool about him the whole time, because he is in heat and he is getting a proper fucking, but you can never keep Loki's sass down forever. ....wow, this is a terrible rec. But it was an excellent fic for Tony just totally wrecking Loki and having him be completely fucked out after being desperate for it and, wow, was that super good to find here.

Hourglass by Hella, tony/loki, 1.3k
Loki always was quick to catch onto a lie. In which Tony's palladium poisoning doesn't occur until after the events of The Avengers.
I really do enjoy this author's Tony/Loki fic a lot, there's all these sharp edges to both of them, this dark humor, even in a rather heartbreaking scenario--here, Tony's palladium poisoning doesn't happen until after The Avengers, which means Loki is a wild card in this situation, and Tony doesn't want Loki to stick around and just watch him die--where it's not entirely about the plot, but about how Tony reacts when he expects to die. It's beautifully characterized and there's a lot of emotion under the surface for both of them and, oh, that's so good.

The Wise King by theorytale, tony/pepper + tony/loki + possible future tony/loki/pepper + thor + avengers, 14.8k
In which Loki is not the God of Family Therapy and Tony is a bad Asgardian role model (and possibly a Care Bear). Or: Loki goes to prison, and Tony tries to learn more about the extent of Loki's powers and plans.
This is the fourth in a series, it would help to have read the previous fics first.
I've been giving thought to Tony/Loki again lately and, generally, I agree with Meg that we're pretty sure that not even Tony wants to put his dick into that much crazy. But... I'm really weak to banter. And I am really, really enjoying this author's series of balacing Tony/Loki with Tony/Pepper and not rushing through anything. So, while reading, it occurred to me that one of the best parts about this fic is the conversation between Tony and Thor about the way Loki was raised in Asgard and how things sort of start to make more sense the more Tony digs and that's one of the things I love about Tony/Loki fic--it gives a reason for a fresh perspective character to have a conversation with Thor about Loki and go OH NO WONDER and LOKI MAKES A LOT MORE SENSE NOW. But there's even more to this fic than just that satisfaction--the author does a gorgeous job with the Tony voice, of course, but also Tony and Loki's interaction may feel glacial in a way (though, I tore through all ~15k of this in one sitting because omg DELICIOUS CANDY and it has such a great pacing to it) but it's still progressing. The major interaction between them in this fic is so sharp and painful and angry and yet... not, at the same time. This Loki is still terrifying even for all the new understanding of him, even for all the progress Tony makes, even for how Loki opens up just a bit on wondering how Tony deals with everything when it gets to be too much. It's almost like a chess game between them and that's so, so perfect in this fic with these characters.

The Loki Problem by elizamechanicka, tony/loki + avengers team fic + some one-sided steve/loki + some thor & loki, humor, avenger!loki, sick!loki, 30k
Loki catches a cold and his magic goes crazy. The Avengers are being taken out one by one...
I picked up this fic because, well, how am I supposed to resist a fic that starts off with Loki getting sick and his magic going haywire because of it? I'd have read for that alone, but then, oh, this fic decided to surprise me with an amazing bantering relationship between Loki and the rest of the team. It's cracky at times, it's definitely light-hearted and meant to be a feel-good fic, it stays that way for the entire time, but it's solidly characterized and brilliantly written for how... there were two separate times when I had to set my reader down and honestly just laugh until I had tears in my eyes. I love stories where Loki becomes part of the Avengers, but I love it even more when it comes with humor and that growing sense of family between everyone and a lovely team balance. This is also a Tony/Loki fic, however, as its set through Tony's point of view, but it's just a sort of attraction that's not really looked too hard at for the first half of the fic and, even once Tony puts a name to it, it still takes its time getting around to that, because they all need time to get used to each other first and, also, Loki is miserably sick and not feeling up to par.

The best best best thing about the fic, though, is that Thor and Loki have a very close relationship in it, even if we don't see it through Tony's eyes as much--they argue and snipe sometimes, but Thor practically just beams to have his baby brother around, he's always being touchy-feely with him, he practically towers over those who would try to hurt his precious baby brother, and Loki is... well, Loki is a cat. He'll sidle up to Thor (or, later, Tony) when he feels like it. This fic was 30k words long, but it hardly felt it, since I sat down to read it and pretty much didn't get up again until I was finished, it just sailed right along, always making me love everyone and everything. And, oh, the various situations the Avengers found themselves in because weird shit would happen every time Loki so much as sneezed (rather literally) was hilarious and amazing. Ugh, this is everything I want in Tony/Loki fic! p.s. Tony's way of dealing with his attraction to Loki was AMAAAAZING. p.p.s. Steve being accidentally enchanted to fall in love with Loki was the most amazingly, hilarious, bittersweet thing pretty much ever and now I want fic where they kiss a lot, too.

Deeds (or To Be Worthy) by elizamechanicka, tony/loki + avengers + other asgardians, humor, 32.2k
Tony must enter a tournament to win Loki's fair hand in beloved eternal matrimony. He's got some stiff competition, and limited time.
This is a sequel to The Loki Problem, which should be read first.
With the previous fic, there was more of a sense of focus on the entire team, of the slow-build up between Tony and Loki, which was almost sort of only half the point of the fic. In this one, the author changes that a bit, so the focus is definitely more on the relationship itself and Tony's feelings for Loki, even as there's a whole epic series of shenanigans going on. With Tony/Loki, my preference is for the former, but I still found myself absolutely sailing through this story, because the writing was so smooth and hilarious. The author certainly doesn't shy away from really making it a satisfying read, when it starts with Loki hurtling through a vortex to demand that Tony propose to him to explaining just what kind of little shit he really is (used to be) to the hoops Tony has to jump through to save Loki from being married to Doom instead to the deepening feelings Tony has for Loki as all sorts of shit gets thrown in their way.

I also loved that the author didn't forget that Thor really, really loves his baby brother. It's not necessarily put into words a lot, beause this is a Tony pov fic and Tony's pretty focused on Loki, but there's tension there, because you understand that Thor is used to having all of Loki's attention, that it's not just Loki being hyperfocused on Thor, that it kind of went both ways. It's not a bad situation, it's not heartbreaking or dangerous, it's just a bit of extra delicious tension and a reminder that Thor is an incredibly important presence in Loki's life and that's always something that I need to see in fic. But also, THE AVENGERS IN ASGARD, omg, when Tony gave Frigga a camera so she could take pictures of everything, it was one of those moments where I didn't realize how much I needed that until this beautiful thing was in my life. It's definitely still cracky, but the author just runs with that, has such a gift for humor and hilarious situations and comedic timing, that it was an amazing read.

"This doesn't have to be a love story."
This is part of a series that isn't absolutely necessary to read in order, but would definitely benefit from it.
While I am sorry to see this series go (though, there is happily some potential for more bits and pieces in the timeline in places), this was a lovely, perfect end to one of my very favorites for this pairing. Liars and killers by belmanoir, loki + minor tony/loki + minor avengers, therapy fic, 1.5k
Tony is rallying the team on Loki's side. Today that means Clint and Natasha. Chronologically, this falls between "All this and forgiveness too" and "I didn't do it, you lit the match for me."
This is the nineth fic in a series, which should be read in order.
This actually takes place in between two previous fics, which was a little frustrating for me, because I wanted to know what happens next, dammit! But was also really good for me because the author has been working Loki towards... not precisely changing so much as... accepting himself better, which means accepting his actions and the responsibility for them, set against a scene of Tony rallying the troops to get Loki out of S.H.I.E.L.D. jail. I really enjoyed the hard edges to Clint and Natasha's characters here, especially the brief moments Loki and Natasha had, because that's a dynamic I find fascinating. And I really liked the conversation about the whole Chitauri mind control thing, that is something I'm always fascinated to see come up in fic! Basically, more really good, sharp writing that I enjoyed.

Sufficient to have stood, though free to fall by tigriswolf, tony/loki, 1k
He could be Loki, and Loki could’ve been him [...].
This is a very short piece, but I liked it for the way it looked at Tony and Loki, their similiarities and yet differences, the aspect of godhood between them and how that does and doesn't make a difference. Clint's understated understanding of what Tony sees in Loki, even if it's not that simple, is gorgeous as well. It's short, but it says a lot without saying it, which I'm always a fan of.

Loki's Brood by Raven_Ehtar, tony/loki + thor + jormungandr + hela + fenrir + avengers, 30k
Loki pops in unexpectedly to drop off his three kids on Tony, expecting him to watch over them while he's gone on a mission. Tony is unprepared for what three spawn of Loki can dish out, or for the underlying meaning of Loki trusting him with his offspring.
To some degree, you just sort of have to roll with this fic, that Loki has three kids, that he drops them off with Tony, that Tony goes along with babysitting them and the greater than usual responsibilties that means, given that these are Loki's kids. But I like kidfic a lot and these kids were really cute and I enjoyed seeing Tony trying to deal with them, it was a low-stress sort of fic for me... until Thor showed up. And that's when this fic switched gears for me, because one of the things I love dearest about FrostIron fic is when they include Thor's importance in the fic, especially if Thor and Tony have a heartfelt conversation and Thor's really, genuinely trying with Loki, he's not perfect, but he's working hard at it. And, oh, their conversation about why Loki didn't entrust Thor with the kids, Thor's respect for what he should/shouldn't say about Loki, how he very clearly loves Loki so much, all of that was brilliant.

It made the developing relationship with Tony all the stronger for it, that it hit that sweet spot for me, where Loki still has deep connections to his history and his family, but also is branching out, even for as little as they directly interacted with each other. This was all about Tony (and the other Avengers, to some degree) puzzling this whole situation out while Loki was off doing some task set to him, puzzling out Loki's motivations and bonding with the really cute kids. As a bonus, Pepper was treated well in this fic, too! Probably not for those who don't care for kidfic, but if you enjoy it? Yeah, this one was sweet and comforting.

If mind-controlled Barton doesn't come to spring Loki from the helicarrier, somebody else might have to. That somebody might be Tony Stark, who might not agree with S.H.I.E.L.D.'s interrogation methods and treatment of prisoners. Luckily, with Thor's help, Supervillain Rescue Mission is a go. Too bad it starts spinning wildly out of control within minutes.
I did a recommendation for this fic when it was only about half finished and now that the final chapter has been posted, I wanted to do one for the second half. The original rec is here, which goes into a lot of why this fic hooked me from the very beginning and how much I loved the Thor & Loki relationship in that first half, all of which is still true. And that's where I'll start off with this rec, because the second half really doesn't have much Thor in it at all, because it focuses more on the growing Tony/Loki relationship, but I found that I actually really didn't mind because this is probably the best FrostIron fic I have ever read. And, okay, I'm soothed by how the author's comments--which help to be aware of, if you've skimmed through some of the comments on the middle chapters--bear out that, with Thor and Loki... they're the kind where they get into these huge, terrible fights one minute and then it's just sort of... eh, they're back to being BFFs the next day, that's how these Norse god brothers roll. So, even when they get into this absolutely terrifying fight and beat the hell out of each other, which is such an intense and brutal fight, it's one that charmed me because, holy fuck, Thor is terrifying when you're in his way!

But once that's done, the fic uses that fight (and the necessary fleeing Tony and Loki do from it and Thor) to launch its main characters into a situation where they have to work together and spend a lot of time with each other, which builds the relationship. With a lot of stories that do this, both in fic and in canon, people have these intense relationships forged over a handful of days that create intense feelings, but you also don't feel the solid foundation that the relationship will last once those intense circumstances are gone. Here, though, I felt like the author gave them enough downtime and enough forcible spilling of their personal demons and just how they work that it built the relationship well enough that I could see it lasting beyond the immediate events, which is why the trope is so popular in the first place, because it can be well done and it's so satisfying when it is!

The other thing that this fic does well is the way it balances a multitude of things that make it an incredibly strong story--this is a FrostIron fic, yes, but I was reading it just as much for the plot as I was for the relationship, and the author did not hold back or skimp on putting importance there. The relationship is central to the motivations of the characters and the plot, it would not have happened the way it did without these specific characters in this specific relationship, which is perfect. It had to be these two. Yet, also, for all that it's a plotfic that deals with Loki's invasion of Midgard and the looming Thanos threat, for all that it's a Tony/Loki fic, it's also a Tony fic in general! And, oh, this author absolutely NAILS Tony's voice, he is brilliant and perfectly written, both in the way that I sometimes just had to put my reader down to laugh for awhile and for how... brilliant a person Tony is, how his emotional damage makes him act/feel, all of that was perfectly done here.

There's also a great wealth of scenes with Tony interacting with other characters! Towards the end, he interacts with Bruce more and it's utter perfection, like, I could have read 100k of that alone, because the fic absolutely captured the magic of their relationship in the movie! And, oh, Pepper doesn't just immediately disappear from Tony's life, she's still there and she's still so important to him and there are still such a tangle of feelings there and she's such a lovely, sensible person. This may have been a Tony fic and it was limited to the characters that he would directly interact with--oh, man, this Natasha is spot on, too, if I haven't mentioned that, how she's not his friend, how she is a spy and emotionally hard when she needs to be, and it's perfect, I loved her so much--but that doesn't mean the fic skimps on fleshing out this world and this plot incredibly well. There are so many people in both Tony and Loki's lives that it makes the relationship between them all the better and stronger for when I'm reading!

The fic also does the marvelous thing of how, when it got to the climax, I was practically vibrating right in my seat for how deliciously well the tension was ramping up and at a fever pitch at all the right moments. The author clearly planned her shit out ahead of time, she knew exactly what she was doing, so that all these little touches previously all came together, so that the ending was just the right kind of delicousness and everything I wanted from it. Oh, I definitely am eager for the sequel fic that's coming out eventually, I want to see so much more of where these characters are going to go, because Divergent Timeline fics are one of my favorite things when one thing changes that snowballs everything else, so you recognize all the pieces that were in play before are still important, but they're put together in new and fascinating ways. This fic diverged from canon, but it was no less complex or fascinating for it, and that makes it one of the best fics I've read in this fandom. And that's not even counting that there was some pretty satisfying porn in here, too!

Ashore by Arkada, tony/loki + thor + other avengers, NSFW, pacific rim crossover, 25k
After the terrible things he’s done, Loki Odinson knows he’s a monster; so does the entire Shielddome, who hate him almost as much as he hates himself. Now he’s only on base because his brother insists, never mind that Loki would give almost anything to get out of here. Building Jaegers is Tony Stark's wet dream come to life. He can drink, screw around, and avoid sleeping as much as he wants, so long as he keeps the Jaeger fleet running, and he never has to explain why he's borderline destroying himself. When they meet, it's lust at first sight - for Tony. For Loki, it's hope and safety and friendship and everything else he can't let himself have.
Mmm, yes, protective!big brother Thor in FrostIron fic, that he is as important in Loki's life as Tony is, that's one of the things I always miss in so much of Tony/Loki fic. I'll admit that this fic isn't really that good just for pure Thor characterization, it's more about the presence of him in Loki's life that's the good stuff, but I also recognize that it kind of has to be that way, as this is a fic that focuses on Tony and Loki, that there's not enough room for Thor to take up more space than he already does. With that in mind, things like the drift scene are a perfect example of everything this fic is, which is why it serves so well as the real climax of the story! That the Thor characterization is more of a prop in the Tony/Loki story than anything (especially given how often Thor is quiet in the background) is as mentioned kind of necessary to keep him from taking it over, but the scene is so much fun and has so many feelings that I loved it! It was one of the highlights of the fic, both exciting and emotionally charged in the way it needed to be!

The way the whole fic matched these characters to the Pacific Rim AU really fits for them, the fusion of it felt right to me, like, yes, this is how these characters would end up, finding that sweet spot between keeping the spirit of the original canon without just repeating it, while also giving this world the detail and attention it needed. This was an exciting fic as much for the plot going on here, as it was for seeing these characters I'm so fond of in a new setting. That's why I liked that drift scene so much, because the tension and pacing built up to it in such a solidly done way that it was genuinely exciting to read about them working together and fighting a kaiju as much as it was emotionally satisfying to finally have things coming to a head!

The other place this fic really sings is with Tony's voice and thought patterns, which are so very sharp and just ridiculously charming and fun to read about, in the way Tony Stark should always be! I'm forever in awe of those who can write a good Tony Stark voice, especially when it comes along with really fantastic plotting, sharp writing, and a fusion that just works. This fic is so solidly good that it's one of the best things I've read lately. And then there was some super satisfying sex in there as well, with Loki being fingered and then riding Tony like an utter demon. Fusions, hilarious dialogue, and Loki getting a good fucking. Literally all I want in fic some days.

Loki's always been insatiable in bed, and Tony's had enough of it. He's going to find exactly how much is too much for a god. Of course, he's just a mortal - he can't do it himself. But building his own remote-controlled vibrator and watching the show? Works for him.
Mm, Tony wanting to get Loki as fucked out as possible and Loki wanting it as well, the combination of joyful, filthy, and admiring/adoring makes this such a fun fic. It doesn't have to be long, because it's just the right length for what it's going for (not that I would have objected to more of it) and I just... love how light-hearted this is, I love how much Tony thinks Loki is gorgeous like this, with a Stark toy in his ass, sliding throuhgh the come that Tony put there. So deliciously filthy and good for me. ♥

When Loki's world falls apart around him, he learns that sometimes you do get a second chance.
This is one of those fics that... I have my caveats about, which I'll get to in a moment, but I don't want to start this rec out with anything other than praise for the incredible things it accomplished. It was a hard fic to read at times, because this is truly a story about Loki descending into madness, it's a fic that truly does justice to the ideas it wanted to focus on, and it's an incredibly intense ride. There are many, many ways in which this fic is brilliant and I want to get to all of them as I go through this rec. But there are a few things that held this fic back from being perfect, most of which come down to the characters and the characterization. The focus on Loki as the central character and the absolute hell he goes through because of the time loops is brilliantly done, which may be why the rest of the characters pale in comparison. Some of them are great fun (I especially enjoyed the use of Clint and Jan, both of their friendships with Loki were delightful!) but Thor felt off in nearly every scene he was in, the initial reunion scene between him and Loki felt very flat, and I couldn't quite put my finger on why. The more Steve was written into the story, though, the more I felt like... it was almost a fanon problem? They felt like they were influenced by the fandom, rather than the canon. Especially with Steve's speech patterns and the way Thor interacted with Loki.

The other thing is the Tony/Loki relationship is definitely used as a prop in the story, rather than something that felt organic to the writing. The fic recognizes this right from the beginning, given the author's notes, that it's not the purpose of the fic, but the more you get into the story, the more you understand why that is, why a pairing was necessary, why Tony/Loki is the best choice for it, even as it never fully clicks because it's situated in the middle of this otherwise incredibly well-told story. The ending is also immediately apparent as soon as you end the first chapter/start the second, where this is all circling around to. And, again, part of that is that it stands out more because the rest is so brilliant. And my purpose isn't to knock the fic, but rather to point out things that might have other people pause and I want to encourage them onwards, because the fic is so very worth it.

Now, all that said, seriously, this fic is brilliant in the main focus of its goals--to show the utter hell Loki lives through between Thor and The Avengers. It's incredibly engorssing, once I picked it up, I read the first two chapters (which were all that had been posted at the time of my reading) over the span of a couple of days, which was fast for me, because I was doing a lot of other stuff at the time, where I just could not put it down. It was always "just a little bit more" to read, until I was reading probably 10k words with the intent that I would put it down any second now. It's marvelously paced, each loop that Loki goes through is fully fleshed out so that you understand why it was necessary, why it was so... each loop had Loki really, geneuinely trying. Each loop was a genuine attempt that wasn't half-hearted, each time it showed the lengths he went to and the plans that he so meticulously put into place, even while each of them failed and you understood why. In a way, it made the fic exhausting to read, especially knowing where all of this was heading towards, especially because each time, more of Loki's emotional stability was stripped away.

You could feel how much care this was done with, how the author did the work necessary to take you through the journey with Loki, so it really earns that deliberate emotional exhaustion it evokes in the reader. And with a lot of stories, I hear "it was emotionally exhausting" and I'm like n o p e, but that's not how I mean this, because I think the emotional exhaustion is the point, it's another of the things that makes this story worth reading. It helps, of course, that there's a stinger scene after all the author's notes, that both was perfectly written so that I could just picture the whole thing and it got me incredibly excited about how everything could just snowball from there. It's perfect for what it means for the ending of the story/what the future of this universe might hold, as well as for making the whole thing feel like all the hardship may yet still be going somewhere.

Because the scope of this fic and all those hardships truly are epic in this story. The use of Thanos and Nidhoggr are brilliantly done, this is one of the best Thanos fics I've read in the fandom and they are truly terrifying here. Both of them are used very well in the story, especially for how they often loom in the distance rather than are directly involved--though, when they are, the writing does justice to how awe-inspiring and horrifying they are in person. No matter how many times Loki thinks about them or meets them again, they never lose that edge of how huge and menacing they feel, the undercurrent of Loki's PTSD is always felt and it's so razor sharp in a way that I can't put into words. There was clearly so much planning put into this fic and it shows, not in a way that you feel lectured to, but that this shit was nailed down and carefully crafted with each step of the way.

And because of that careful crafting, one of the most interesting things to see is how Loki went from the character he was in Thor to The Avengers along a different path than usual, so you can see why this Loki really seems to have this belief that... no one he hurts matters, that nothing he does has any consequence, because of what he's lived for the past several years. It's never directly stated in the fic, it's in the author's notes more clearly, but you feel it in the story, how the character shifts in personality and beliefs, the way all the good and bad things that happen to him are shaping him. You also feel why he seems so isolated and why he doesn't reach out to others, why things become like ideals or theoretical concepts in his mind, rather than having actual emotional connection. Well, there is still some, the conversation between Thor and Loki in antarctica got me, because you really felt the weight of their history together and felt that sense of being torn, that Loki wants to reach out, but doesn't quite know how and the timing of everything always seems to be against him.

I really do recommend this fic, even if the size seems a bit daunting, because it'll go fast, the writing is incredibly smooth and polished, making it an engrossing read. It does have a fair amount of Loki favoritism to the detriment of other characters, but that's part of what the fic is about, this is very much a Loki fic and, taken in that vein, is really an excellent fic. I'm putting this in with the FrostIron recs and genfic recs because, really, it's more of a genfic story than anything, but the Tony/Loki relationship should appeal (and hopefully not bother those who don't care for it) if you like it. But, really, this is a Loki story that's an absolutely fascinating read, for the emotional wringer of it, rather than in spite of it.

Shapechangers in Winter by kyrilu, some hinted tony/loki (pre-slash?) + thor & loki + odin & loki + thor & tony, crossover/fusion, animal transformation, 31k
Instead of simply attacking, the frost giants that invade Asgard turn Odin, Loki, and Thor into animals--an eagle, fox, and bear respectively. The three gods are banished to Earth where they meet Tony Stark. With the looming threat of a Jotun-inflicted Ice Age, Tony agrees to help the Norse gods take back Asgard. What happens is a realm-hopping adventure featuring daddy issues, near death situations, god+human friendships, and seal breakfasts. A fusion with Neil Gaiman’s Odd and the Frost Giants.
I picked up the link for this fic on hannahrhen's tumblr and, oh, I'm so glad I did! For one thing, it was a perfect way to cap off my FrostIron reading spree, but more than that--it was satisfying for the Thor&Loki relationship (as well as the Odin&Loki relationship) in a Tony/Loki fic! Yessssss, that is right in my wheelhouse, okay. But the fic didn't stop there! No, the fic balanced Loki's relationships with all three of these characters but it also even got in Thor & Tony's friendship! Do you know how delighted I was to see that? DO YOU? Because, oh, man, yes, their friendship is so great! And it's not a major, major part of the fic, but it's very much there and solid and so perfectly done. The Tony/Loki is really more a developing attraction, it's about on par for importance with the other things going on, which means it was absolutely perfect for the characters, because they've got other important shit going on.

The fic also blends three separate storylines and includes elements of a fourth, all of them wound together so seamlessly that you'd hardly know it. At the same time, it's not just a retelling of those events, this is fresh and new and the story truly belongs to this narrative! It's a satisfying story that balances everything just right, so I was wholly invested in the adventures these four had, both for the plot and for the character moments! There were no scenes that dragged, nothing that felt like it was being given too much or too little weight for what it needed to be, and the emotions of it were perfection, so I was left feeling happy and content afterwards. The use of Loki having let the Jotnar into Asgard is one of the main aspects and, oh, I absolutely adored what the author did with it, how it came to a head and how it caused (necessary! and satisfying!) complications between him and the other three characters, each for their own reasons.

Loki's relationship with Odin often gets ignored, but it was important here and the resolution is lovely for what it does and doesn't change. Loki's relationship with Thor just got right at my fannish heart, the anger and hurt Thor feels at all the bitterness Loki has kept hidden in him! And Tony's own issues come up about betrayal and family, but they also have a satisfying resolution. I love when fic can make each relationship different and important, which this fic does marvelously. That's probably the biggest reason I'd want to recommend this fic!

But there are also little touches that the fic does amazingly well--Tony's pop culture references are great, they're just the right amount of hilarious without taking over or trying too hard. As well as the elements of Norse mythology, especially the various people and places that are in Jotunheim, are very nicely done, while never losing that this is a MCU-based fic. The fic does a lovely job at making sure that this is primarly a fic centered on Tony, so there's a great amount of references to his supporting characters (all the mentions of Pepper were especially lovely), while not overusing him to the point that he overshadowed the other characters. It's one of the best FrostIron fics I've read, but I would also consider it one of the best gen fics I've read in the fandom as well, because it's more an undercurrent than anything that actually happens. I would recommend it for just about anyone who liked any of these characters, really. ♥

Kink-Shaming Tony Stark (Doesn't Work) by HRH After Dark (hannahrhen), tony/loki, mildly nsfw, 1.1k
After three episodes of "Vikings," there had been wine, and lewd discussion, and--now that Tony thought of it--a little too much interest in his guilty kink confessions from the God of Mischief. (Or, Loki and Tony roleplay Athelstan and Ragnar.)
You know what I love? When Loki is an absolute little shit and knows how to get under people's skin and it's not always about being hurtful or mean or petty, but sometimes it's used to show that he knows exactly how to really, really turn people on. And sometimes he hits on something that's just so mind numbing that Tony can't resist him and his freakout about it is pure joy for me. But I'm also okay being a terrible person. This was such a great blend of Vikings-related kink imagery and humor, hot and fun at the same time! Bless.

I started this fic about three weeks ago and was instantly in love, because this fic was doing everything right that I wanted out of FrostIron fic--an excellent voice for Tony, moments that had me putting my reader down to just laugh, but not ignoring the heavier weight of shit going down, an alternate timeline where Tony and Thor work together to break Loki out of S.H.I.E.L.D. custody, loads of Thor&Loki moments, and a plot that was unfolding an excellent clip. Since I started reading, the two most recent chapters (10 and 11) have made me incredibly nervous about where the author is taking Thor and his relationship with Loki and I'm really worried that the fic will crush me and I'll be heartbroken and soured on where it goes. I don't mind tension there, I don't even mind the ugliness of the knock-down-drag-out fight on both sides, but if it's ultimately not repaired, I worry that that will ruin the entire fic for me.

And I mention this because the first nine chapters are, like, the most perfect Tony/Loki fic I have ever read, pretty much. There is SO MUCH HILARITY here, the kind that's black humor found in moments that shouldn't be funny, but that's how Tony Stark rolls, by thinking the most hilarious and/or awful things that leave me in tears of laughter. The first nine chapters are amazing because they're just... so incredibly sharp, so brilliant, and they contain Thor and Loki cuddling on the couch like it's no big deal. Usually without wearing pants. And Tony's beautiful, beautiful JESUS FUCK PUT SOME PANTS ON AND STOP TRAUMATIZING ME reactions are just the best. I would recommend this fic for the humor alone! That it also has a plot (because, of course, things spin wildly out of control once the plot changes and they have to go on the run and nobody really knows what they should do next, especially with Loki being an unhelpful little shit) and gorgeous characterization and build-up of the Tony/Loki relationship, forcing them into a scenario where they have to somewhat get along, just long enough for them to realize they actually like each other.

And further than that, even, I really appreciated the way this fic dealt with Tony's relationship with Pepper, as it was a real relationship and he genuinely loved her and the dissolution of it hurt, because it mattered. He doesn't just immediately jump into feelings for Loki, either, it's almost 60k and they've had sex twice now and they're still working their way towards any kind of actual relationship and, oh, that build-up and the use of these intense situations to form intense feelings really works well. But one of the greatest things this fic does is having Tony observe and kind of get some things that no one in Asgard is really in a position to get--the racism towards the Jotnar race and how internalizing that is doing a real number on Loki, which Tony talks to Thor about in a really excellent scene, because you can just feel how much Thor loves his brother and how much he cares and how this is so difficult for him to wrap his mind around, because he doesn't see it that way at all. This is balanced against how these two people in this conversation (Thor and Tony) don't really know each other, they don't have a long friendship to draw on, but they are in a nearly life-or-death situation, so it works for me that Tony would try to detangle a bit of this mess, because he's caught up in it, too, with them needing Loki's magic and his knowledge of where the Tesseract is and whatever he's planning.

Even if the fic breaks my heart in a bad way and leaves me unable to finish it (because I love FrostIron ridiculously, but one of my dealbreakers is that the Thor&Loki relationship has to be repairable and important, even if it's way in the background) I would still heartily recommend those first nine chapters because they are amazing and the almost domesticity of the three of them sharing a house for awhile had me in tears of laughter. Especially the scene where they're trying to decide who should go after the Tesseract and, if you don't laugh at that, I don't understand you. Or every time Tony comes up with a new nickname for Loki. Or a dozen other things that were amazing.

I was initially wary of this fic, because I'm not big on punishing Loki in really cruel ways, but there was enough of Thor caring for him and the implication of Frigga being unwilling to stand for anything too cruel that I kept going, and I'm glad I did, because, oh, this fic definitely got me. I had to grit my teeth during the suicide attempt scene, because it wasn't overdone and thus had all the more impact for it, even if I'm admittedly bring a lot of my own baggage to the table--but this is the reaction I was supposed to have, that tensing up because it stirred up emotions in me. The fic is more of a sketch, but in the way that really worked for it, allowing brief touches on the scenes to lend a subtle quality to it. But it's also in the way that it's about Loki learning to work with the Avengers (sort of, just a tiny bit, mostly Tony) and Thor hovering over him protectively and a really excellent ending. This is everything I could have asked for.

This was totally adorable and you can read it as a standalone, all you need to know is that Loki is expecting and it's going to be soon. Very soon. It happily embraces the trope of pregnant!Loki and how high maintenance he is and the fluffiness of bringing babies into this world and how he's still a little shit even when he's mellowed and settled down a lot. I was also pleased at Thor's presence in the beginning of the fic, how Loki may be prickly and condescending, but you can still feel his reassurance at Thor being there, even when Thor doesn't really know what to do with someone about to give birth. It adds to the sense of family that Loki's built here, that he has such a happy relationship with Tony and his relationship with Thor is being slowly patched up and now he'll have children in his life and it's just. Fluffy and adorable and good for me.

And it was exactly what I needed to make my night better, because I smiled my entire way through the fic and just had fun with it. The author did it in a 5+1 style, so it was five different ways Loki came at Tony (and Tony was like oh fuck no that is not happening) and, oh, I love Loki being the greatest little shit ever. It's definitely cracky, so it won't appeal to everyone, but it was cute and delightful and super charming. I adored it.

Okay, and then back to the heartbreaker fics, now that my world has been righted a bit more. And this Loki is still... this isn't precisely how I see Loki being damaged, but I still find him utterly fascinating and I still find the writing to be so sharp and cutting that it's a little breathtaking to read. What really struck me about this fic in particular is the way the author used Tony's pov on two of the people that he's closest to right now--Bruce and Loki--and realizing they're both suicidal in their own ways, that they both want to die on some level, and how that freaks him out and he doesn't really quite know how to handle it. It's dark and messy and painful, it's all wrapped up in the complicated things Tony wants for Loki, but doesn't necessarily need to be for Loki (ie, he wants Loki to be happy, but that might be different from wanting to be the thing that makes Loki happy, yet it's not that simple, because he wants to help and he wants Loki) and the author does a beautiful job of not untangling things too quickly.

This one is fairly short, but it gets the heart of what it needs to get across, and it's just sheer fun for it, that Tony has kidnapped a member of the royal family who is more than he expected to get, which means he's stumbled into quite the sticky situation here. There's a ton of potential in this and, ahhhh, now I want a whole big epic fic, which I know is the mark of a good oneshot, when it's satisfying as it is, but also makes my brain explode a little with possibilities.

The prompt for this fic was already amazing (creepy protective big brother Thor has a chat with Tony about his intentions towards his precious baby brother), but then the fill was just as amazing as the potential for it. This is one of those things that I want to have more of pretty much forever, because it's screamingly hilarious and I love protective brother Thor that makes Loki's life difficult and Tony being like jesus fuck what am I about to stick my dick into here, but also because, I DARE YOU not to love a fic that contains the line: "You will not contact him with your genitals?" Even better, there's bonus fanart that's pretty amazing, too. Utterly, utterly hilarious.

Extremely Hot And Currently Female by copperbadge, tony/loki + background steve/pepper + other asgardians, nsfw, genderfluid!loki, fem!loki, pregnant!loki
Tony knows he shouldn't sleep with Loki, it's just sometimes he's drunk and she's female and he forgets why.
So, this fic rounded out my reading last night and I can't tell you how great it was to have two fics that were each close to 20k words long and both gorgeously written, it's so satisfying when you can just curl up for awhile before bed and read about 40k of fic that's completely engrossing and a joy to read. But, then, I often like copperbadge's writing, so I was super intrigued by the promise of a Tony/Loki fic, especially with the tags on this one and, oh, I was not disappointed. This is set from Tony's point of view, which means there's a lot of really hilarious commentary or interjections, especially because Loki is so complicated and Tony's complicated, too. The fic does a gorgeous job of showing the complications between the two of them, how they will never really have a smooth relationship, not even when things do eventually smooth out.

But it wasn't just that it was a good Tony/Loki fic (though, it was that, too), it was much bigger in scope than that. The fic pulls in elements of the comics as well (the Young Avengers make appearances towards the end, there are references to Children's Crusade and Civil War) to give a bigger picture of what happens as their lives go onwards. Even then it was still more than that, with the way Loki's gender was entirely fluid here and I love that so much. I love that it's just part of who Loki is, whether she's female or whether he's male, it's still always Loki and the complicated relationships the character has with people. It's also baby fic and Loki interacting with the Avengers and the next generation of Avengers and fantastic sass and yet genuine emotions and, oh my god, this fic had Tony going to Asgard to meet the in-laws and being so Tony about it, right to Odin's face and I CANNOT TELL YOU HOW AMAZING THAT WAS. Like, if you didn't see what made Loki interested in Tony before that or why their relationship worked, the scenes on Asgard were so perfect that they would have convinced me all over again.

Fractals by FelicityGS, tony/loki, 3k
Tony never talks about the tattoo on his left shoulder, never talks about fractals, never talks about angles of light hitting the surface of water. He never talks about how he came up with what JARVIS stands for or how he got the AI so human, never talks about how JARVIS is the only thing he has left next to memories of poison green eyes and a laugh, high and wild and free.
This is part four of a series that would help to be read in order. The first four stories can be read in just about any order, though.
This is the story where the Tony/Loki really comes into play with this series and I have to admit, I was a little hesitant about it, because I was so enjoying the family feels with Loki's family that I didn't want to move away from that and I'll also admit that Tony/Loki has a bit of a hill to climb with me. But, oh, there's something so perfect and gorgeous about the way they interact here, the way they understand each other on a certain level but not other levels, the way their individual chaotic natures mix well together and then, somehow, eventually manage to settle each other just enough. Usually, that's a bit of a tough sell for me, but this author does it beautifully, the way they fit around each other and temper each other--odd for two people who have similar issues, but it works. And the inclusion of math and science in little ways here, so many rich details in the background, the way the author doesn't pull the punches of how chaotic these two are, while still making it something good, oh, that was really good for me.

Roulettes by FelicityGS, tony/loki + thor + pepper, 2.2k
This is really just a formality. He doesn’t actually need to circle back like this, he’s not orbiting around this, his life is not some spirograph that’s fixed on him.
This is part eight of a series that needs to be read in order by this point. Because this is a sequel fic, this rec will contain some spoilers for the events that happened in previous fics.
The story is getting back to the Tony/Loki relationship at this point and, ahhhh, with a lesser author, I might have been frustrated at that, because I'm so very curious about the greater machinations of the plot and what's going to happen and what did happen before the mortal AU dreaming (of sorts) but this author really does sell me on their relationship and Tony's way of mourning, which is half-moved on and half still totally stuck in the past. So much has happened in his life, there are so many other things in it, but there's still this heavy weight that Loki's death caused and, oh, I cannot wait to see how this plays out! All the better because Tony meets Thor again here, starts to get an idea of what he's dealing with, that Norse gods are real, what that means about his relationship with Loki and just... the author is fantastic at conveying so much of Tony's freak out in a way that just twists me up right along with him. So, so good.

JARVIS, glorified baby-sitter by melonbutterfly, tony/loki + avengers, humor, 2.1k
"Sir, I would like for it to go on record that I tried to stop it," JARVIS says completely out of the blue.
Okay, this was half hilarious and half kind of really sweet. I love love love Tony's interactions with his robots here, how they are sort of almost like his kids (except it's more complicated than that) and how they practically have personalities, which works because this is Tony Stark, of course his robots seem like they have personalities. And this was adorable without being too sugary sweet, humorous in just the right amounts, and then a really lovely moment with Loki at the end. Perfect.

The Waffle-Coffee Embargo by melonbutterfly, tony/loki, avenger!loki, fluff, cracky, humor, 4.6k
This is how the Avengers learn that a man should not mess with another man's favourite kitchen appliance.
Well, as long as I was reading the author's cute fics with Loki as part of the Avengers and hilarity with Tony, I might as well click onto another one. And this one is a bit cracky (Thor having become practically emotionally attached to the waffle maker, Loki practically emotionally attached to the coffe maker), but it's joyfully so and hilarious while it's at it. It's got a great Tony voice but also a great team dynamic and Thor and Loki being dicks to each other in the background because that's what brothers do. And I love that the main point of this fic is Tony's attachment to his creations and machines, Loki and Thor both being dicks because they clearly knew exactly what they were doing when they sulk after Tony takes his toys away, and just. The whole fic basically put the biggeest smile on my face.

Diplomatic Relations by melonbutterfly, tony/loki, mildly nsfw, 1.7k
It figures that Tony would have to go to another solar system to find his match. And it figures that he'd be a Prince with more issues than even Tony can boast.
It's always a tough balancing act to fit a lot of worldbuilding into a oneshot that's under 2k words, to get enough detail in to make it interesting, but without overburdening the actual point of the fic, and this does well with that! It's an AU where Tony Stark is part of a diplomatic team to Asgard from Midgard, who gets involved with Asgard's second prince, who has long known what he is. And the best part of this fic--well, the fun banter between the characters, the parallels and contrasts drawn between them, which is always the fun part of Tony and Loki interaction--is how Tony's been doing a little reading in the Asgardian library and is able to recognize when something is not well-researched, based on hearsay, and is, frankly, a lot of bullshit, given that it happens on Midgard, too. And it's not all sunshine and roses after that, Loki is still prickly and doesn't like this avenue of discussion, but there is a subtle shift in their dynamic and that was really good for me.

Parents and Children by melonbutterfly, tony/loki + kids, 2.6k
Loki wants to meet Tony's children.
This is a sequel to JARVIS, glorified baby-sitter, which should be read first.
This fic did so many things that I really liked, beyond just the fun of Tony and Loki interacting with Tony's "kids" again. I like how there's a real sense of Loki just being kind of really odd in the way that the idea of Tony's robots as children doesn't even phase him, he's not humoring Tony, even as he knows they're machines that were created. And yet the robots do have their own personalities and I love how they interact with Loki, as well as how Tony reacts to that. It's such a surprisingly sweet, but still odd scene, a lovely balance of both feelings. There's a lot of bittersweetness to this fic, there's a lot both of these characters have been through, but things are also better now--which makes this one of the bittersweet fics that actually does my heart a lot of good. Plus, you know, it's pretty hilarious to see Loki interacting with U, DUM-E, and Butterfingers. There are some great lines in this fic, a lot of great moments, and it's just fucking precious in the way that I love.

Want by Evandar, tony/loki, NSFW, intersex!loki, 1.7k
It's a bad idea, and Loki deserves more than to be his rebound, but why exactly haven't they done this before?
(At the time of this rec...) Intersex!Loki porn is precious and rare, so when I find it, I treasure it, especially when, holy hell, that's really hot. It's a combination of really scorchingly good porn and Tony really enjoying going down on him, exploring all of Loki's parts, and Loki just being totally undone by it. It's also got a really delightful Tony voice, who is just so enthusiastic about this and Loki's body, but is still... well, Tony about it. There's a great sense of banter (even if it's just Tony being afraid of literally being kicked out of the bed if he doesn't get on with it, instead of stopping to take in the scenery), but mostly? Really, really great porn that actually pays attention to the female parts, too. BLESS YOU, FANDOM. I LOVE YOU AGAIN.

Tricks and Treats by rocknrolljunkie989, tony/loki + avengers, halloween, 2.2k
    Loki discovers Halloween.
One of the best things about an approaching holiday is the themed fic that comes out of it! I do so love Halloween fic and I love the Asgardians discovering Midgardian traditions and I love Loki with the Avengers and I love snarky banter! This fic combines all of those things and wraps it up with cuteness and fun! I enjoyed Loki's curiosity about and seeking out the mischievous side of Halloween, that his little shit nature would do well with the holiday and I just... I love the mental image I had of, when the big reveal of Loki's trick came, chaos exploding everywhere, that he was probably in the center of it just laughing his ass off. That delights me to no end!

Tying the Knot by melonbutterfly, tony/loki, fluff, 1.2k
    Tony and Loki get married.
This fic is just pure fluff and sweetness, where Tony and Loki are getting married. I definitely had to be in the right frame of mind for it, but it was just pure sunshine and happiness, even as there's tension and worry and the usual wedding jitters going on, and it made me feel warm and happy on the inside. Sometimes I just need to read about the pairings I like getting married and wearing beautiful suits and feeling happy about it. Ahhh, this was good for me.

Wicked Stepmother Tony Stark by Graceful_Storyteller, tony/loki + loki's kids, fluff, 1.3k
In which Tony and Nari talk and Tony realises he's just become the kid's wicked stepmother.
With a title and summary like that, well, of course I had to read this. And it's totally cute, where Tony only sort of pulls his punches with Nari (Loki's son) about his relationship with the kid's dad and what that does/doesn't mean, which of course deals with fathers and their presence in their kids' lives and Tony cheerfully admitting to being kind of a dick, but not a dick about everything and I love this version of Nari! Such a precious little asshole child! Of course Loki's kid would turn out like this. This was totally cute and you just want to spend the entire fic either laughing or going, "Oh, Tony." for the way he interacts with kids. This was fantastic.

Signals in Courtship by melonbutterfly, tony/loki + thor & loki + avengers, NSFW, 23.6k
Tony is nonplussed at first when he starts to receive gifts from Loki that Thor informs him are courtship gifts, but he soon starts to return the interest. How could he not when nobody has ever gone to such effort to show their interest in him before, especially someone as fascinating as Loki?
I have this thing for Big Brother Thor in fic and I was just complaining the other day that I don't get enough of it in fic, that Tony/Loki fic especially disappoints me because how do you pass up on that hilarity when, clearly, hilarity is at the heart of what makes this pairing so great? But then this fic came along and, oh, it was such good banter and Tony voice and Thor being enthused about the idea of Tony and Loki dating! Thor! Explaining the meaning behind the gifts Loki leaves, clearly adoring his brother still, genuinely wanting for him to be happy! All while being HILARIOUS because Asgard's ways are different from Midgard's and courting etiquette is no different. And I am dearly in love with this Tony, who finds Loki's weird gifts hilarious, but then kind of intriguing, and actually becomes curious about the guy, actually wants to get to know him when he's not out of his mind and trying to attack the planet.

And that is what is the best thing about this fic! Oh, yes, the resolution is lovely and it's nice that things end up so happy, it makes me glad for both of the characters, but the real highlight of the fic is in the use of magic and technology between the characters, the banter as they slowly develop a relationship with each other. Loki's gifts to Tony are thoughtful and I absolutely loved reading about Tony figuring them out, how they work, how to apply them to different things, what they mean, just being curious about everything. And I love this author's Tony voice, he's that beautiful combination of just a little manic, but mostly snarky and caring underneath that. And I love that there's so much thought being put into this fic! Details that aren't lingered on, but give a feeling of sharpness and intelligent characters, even when it's just describing food or the clothes they choose to wear. Details make up both of these characters in this way, which is always tricky (it's too easy to use them in place of characterization rather than to enhance them) but is pulled off well here.

I loved that this was largely free of angst, that it wasn't precisely fluffy, but it was definitely about being happy and going good places and doing my heart a lot of good for that. But also it's fucking hilarious and has great world building, which are two of my favorite things! It was to the point that I didn't even need sex, because the banter and slowly developing relationship and family feels (even if they weren't really directly in the fic much, that they were in the background was lovely) were so totally satisfying on their own.

Addition to the Family by melonbutterfly, tony/loki + bots, fluff, 4.1k
"Congratulations," JARVIS says very dryly. "You have become a grandfather, sir."
This is the third fic in a series, which should probably be read in order.
Apparently, I decided it was the night to catch up on my Frostiron series reading because, oh, I couldn't resist another fic in that series where Tony's bots are basically his kids and Loki takes a liking to them, which creates all these weird, complicated feelings in Tony, especially when his bots have suddenly made another bot. The author does a lovely job of getting in all the things that a fic like this needs--fun banter between Tony and Loki, the balance between giving these bots personalities and still remembering that they're machines, and having Tony really being kind of weirded out about this, not because of the new bot, but because they're supposed to be his bots and it's weird that they get along so well with Loki. The author weaves all of these things together, the way Tony and Loki need to work on their boundaries with each other, but they're getting there, even if it's not always a smooth process. Basically, everything about this was a joy to read.

A Deal by melonbutterfly, tony/loki pre-slash, 1.6k
Tony always gets what he wants. This is only the first step in his plan.
Oh, this is such an intriguing fic! It's really more of a teaser, so I find myself hoping that there'll be a sequel for this, even if it's just a few more thousand words, because I'm very curious as to how this will go and I love what the author's done with it already. I love Tony and Loki circling each other as they do here, they're both such sharp, brilliant characters and I am positively in love with this Tony actually wanting one of Idunn's apples for his own purposes. Surprisingly, that's something I haven't seen a lot of in fic!

Though, the other thing that this fic did a fantastic job of was that it got me thinking, about how all of this might play out, where all of this would go... and the hook that Tony used to lure Loki into listening to his deal: He could give him Thor. Could get Thor to really listen to him (and I love the acknowledgement of how important that relationship still is to Loki), could be the one to vouch for him and bring them around a bit. In a way, it sort of hurt, to think that Loki had tried to explain himself and no one believed him, how furious and angry he must be, but, oh, man, I can't deny that I'm practically twitching at the chance to see how that might play out if Tony were on his side in the future. But it's also about the way these characters dance around each other, the undercurrent of attraction here, about how this is a fic that focuses on how ruthless Tony can be and, oh, I definitely want more of that.

In Vino Veritas ... or Whatever by hannahrhen, tony/loki pre-slash, 2.2k
Immediately post-"I’ll have that drink now." Tony and Loki, on the steps, waiting for SHIELD to arrive. Tony guesses what "Norse god of mischief" means in American English (it isn’t nice). Gets angry about Phil (it’s about time). Is a dick (but also not). Loki just ... bides his time.
I realized I hadn't yet read this one and immediately proceeded to rectify that. And, oh, this Tony is so good because, so often with fics immediately post-movie, it's hard to write interaction between him and Loki that isn't either... softening his character up (especially given how upset he would be at Coulson's death) or making him too vicious (which isn't my reading preference). But here, this Tony is just angry and cutting enough to let you really feel his anger at everything that's happened, his anger at Loki, while also having this undercurrent of something more, some potential for in the future. There's a touching on how they're similar and Tony gets that and would be interested in seeing something better, once Loki's survived whatever Asgard will put him through, and that, too, made me feel better because a Loki who's got his feet under him about what's coming, yes, that's much more soothing to me. It's this great mix of Tony just being unable to resist poking at something, whether because he's bored or because he wants to see if he can make something good out of this or what. Plus, you know, always with the incredibly sharp banter and amazingly good Tony voice!

The Evolution Of Domestication by disarmed, tony/loki + avengers, 8.6k
Clint is convinced that Loki has become domesticated after spending so much time at the Tower with Tony. He's on a mission to prove it, but he may not be as happy with the end result as he first expected.
I am a sucker for, "Is Loki domesticated or not?" fics where the answer is... somewhere in between. Because I like to think that'll be Loki when he settles down, that he'll be sweet and thoughtful sometimes, even if he's embarrassed by it or angry about it, but then there are times when you turn around and, no, no, he's not without his scary badassery still. I liked all the examples used here (sort of like a Five Times fic, but not structured the same way) and it's a really sweet, fun blend of the Avengers becoming family and just a little humorous cracky and badassery.

Plus, this fic starts out with Loki joining the Avengers, which makes Thor grab his brother up in the biggest hug ever (as well as Thor was pretty :D about the whole thing, which, yes, give me Thor being :D about Loki&Tony forever) and Tony grabbing him to kiss him and I was like, yup, this is the fic for me then. And then the fic wrote the domesticity in such a way that you kind of suspected both Tony and Loki of being trolls at times, but serious at other times, and nobody could really tell the difference, because they're both pretty fucking loopy. And then it was all, wow, okay, no, Loki's still someone you don't cross in a dark alley. And that was the fic for me.

No Negotiation Necessary by melonbutterfly, tony/loki + thor, NSFW, 6.3k
The first time Tony meets Loki, they're in the middle of battle.
Oh, man, yes. An AU fic where Loki comes with Asgard to help Midgard deal with the Chitauri, meets Tony Stark in the middle of the battle, then disappears on him and Tony just has to see him again, eventually finds him and Loki is surprised that Tony would seek him out, there's mutual attraction, and then Loki rides the absolute fuck out of Tony. This just made me really happy today. I love fun AU fics like this, which plays out similarly to canon, but with Loki in an entirely different position, because it's fun, and the point is on all the fun banter that he and Tony could have, especially after Tony's spent three days as part of a diplomatic journey to Asgard and finds it about as intellectually stimulating as Loki does.

There's actually a lot of world building going on in the background, you can feel that there's a lot there that's not being explained yet (since this is the first part of an eventual series, I believe), and I really enjoy that, even when the heart of this fic is really about the banter and the sex. (Which was really delicious and super good for me, btw.) As is befitting a FrostIron fic!

Reflections by Cordelias_Soliloquy, thor & loki + tony/loki, 84.1k
Tony Stark is used to uninvited guests--the reporters, the desperate fan, an enemy or two--but this is different, and he is not sure exactly what to do. Two years after their battle with the chitauri, Tony invites his fellow Avengers to a Stark Industries benefit at an art museum in celebration of their successful crime fighting, only to encounter an uninvited guest.
Chapters 01-11: I don't even remember how I stumbled over this fic anymore, but I saw that it would have Thor&Loki and Tony&Loki relations, so I was intrigued. I will state several caveats ahead of time, however, because I think I may go on about this fic for a bit. There are a lot of consistent (and inconsistent) typos in this fic, which stand out fairly well. Not enough to jar me out of the scene, but noticeable, especially because the writing is otherwise so wonderfully readable and just sails right along! The fic also has a tendency to do something that's difficult to describe, so my apologies for being vague on this, but there are a lot of transitions that aren't very clear. Sometimes things happen off-screen that aren't established well enough or sometimes a conversation shifts in the middle without being clear what was really being said, sometimes I had trouble tracking what was going on in a scene. I'm also not entirely sure what was going on with Loki, when he seemed completely gone one moment, but then seemed almost fine the next moment, and part of that is the lack of establishing the transitions between scenes, but also I'm just not clear on where his head is at. This fic also has an extreme level of punishment that fits more with Norse mythology than it does the MCU, with the serpent and the venom.

Okay, I mention all that because I genuinely want to encourage people to keep reading because, oh, there's so much here that's worth reading for! The author has so many of the necessities for good writing down, so much of this was really smooth and easy to read, that I think they'll become even more amazing as time goes on. Certainly I know I got sucked into this story and read pretty much all of it in two sittings, which is a lot, since I think it's about 45,000 words or so? It's not finished yet and it's in the thick of the action and I REALLY WANT THE NEXT CHAPTER PLEASE but it's so worth reading already for the author really taking their time with making a mess of Loki's mind and trying to piece him back together and all the progress and backsliding that are part of it.

This is a Loki who is deliciously complicated and so angry and he could be very frustrating for the way he interacts with the other characters, but I kept reading it and it just felt really right to me. As much as it made me ache that he couldn't accept Thor's attentions without being cruel and pushing him away and just not wanting him around, no matter how much Thor gives up for him, it made sense to me. It made sense for Loki to have all these issues tied up in Thor, that Thor can't just save him like he wants to, can't just save their relationship like he's trying so desperately to do, can't understand Loki no matter how hard he tries. It makes sense because this Loki clearly loves Thor and it's not just any one thing that makes him push Thor away. It's not just that he loves Thor. It's not just that he can't be vulnerable around Thor unless he's out of his mind. It's not just that he's angry at Thor. It's not just that he's still scheming and plotting and Thor tends to ruin his plans. It's not just his massive emotional/mental damage. It's a complicated, messy mix of all of these things and it works for me because so much of the heart of the fic is still put on that that relationship is so important.

There's technically more focus on Tony&Loki in the fic, because 90% of the fic is from Tony's pov, which means he doesn't always see the Thor&Loki scenes, but the author does a beautiful job of building that relationship, of making it an utter fucking mess because these are two messy people. The fic slowly builds up their interactions, until Tony starts to care about Loki and can't shake that care, no matter how Loki reacts to it, how mean he gets or how he seems to betray them. It's to the point where I'm not sure if the fic will stay gen or eventually become FrostIron fic, but I think I'd be fine with it either way, as the author is really good at showing why Tony understands Loki in a way that not a lot of people can, how they're similar but not necessarily the same, and, oh, that really works for me, when it's in concert with Thor being such an important figure in Loki's life.

But it's not just about the relationships in the fic, though, they are at the heart of it, of course. This is a fic with plot shenanigans going on, with magic artifacts and Amora showing up (with one of the more intriguing uses of her character that I've seen!) and battle scenes and people manipulating each other all over the place, which is just how I like my really long fic. Especially when it comes with a really good Tony voice, who is a delight to read, especially when he's making sharp comments or just wading right into dangerous verbal waters (which I love that backfire on him as often as it gets him somewhere, because that's how it would be, especially with a character like Loki). And I'm hopeful that more will be posted soon, as the first 11 chapters were posted usually within a week or so of each other and, ahhh, that cliffhanger was kind of hellish, I need more soon.

Bless.

Are You There, God of Mischief? It's Me, Tony by fullofleaves [ Iron Man, Avengers ], tony/loki + thor & loki + avengers, mid-avengers timeline divergence, humor + drama, nsfw, wip, 66k

When Loki only Thanos' cruelties awaiting him, and no way to defend himself, he chooses death as his way out. It's up to Tony Stark to teach him how to fight again.

They had prepared for this very thoroughly – which should have been the first indication that things wouldn't go as planned.

So. The God of Mischief likes to be spanked. Explains a lot, actually.
This is part of a series but I think it stands well on its own and, boy, did I enjoy this one. Loki being turned on by spanking really does make a lot of sense to me, given his issues and background, and I really liked that this fic was so enthusiastic about it, which I think might make it appeal to those who wouldn't usually go for this kink/if you're on the fence about it. Plus, the sex was just super hot, Loki slithering over Tony's lap and clearly enjoying this, jfc, nope, I'm done. And then the ending lines are just so perfectly FrostIron.

Loki's in heat and he needs it bad. But where the hell is Tony??
I have a GREAT LOVE of any time Loki is in heat, because he's such a tightly wrapped character, one who has such trouble accepting affection and love or expressing what he wants, that something like putting him in heat that makes it so he has to express the desire, unf, yes, give that to me always. Especially when he's annoying and demanding and arrogant about it, how he wants more and right now, do it now, in combination with the utterly filthy and super satisfying porn.

Wow, I did not know that I needed a space pirates AU until I had one. Goddamn, now I want all the space pirates AUs!!

An Ever-Fixed Mark by hannahrhen
Tony was forty-one when Loki stood before him, an apple cupped in a single palm.
Oh, I loved this a lot. It's... it's this really interesting blend of dark!fic without being gratuitously so, with how I could see the characters this way. Loki offering Tony a golden apple in a trade, which Tony is pretty Tony about, which there's a reason his character has similarities to Loki, and how this fic... it's told in a series of quick scenes over time, as Tony and technology and the world evolve, capturing that feeling of how we're at a point in time where things are evolving so much more quickly than they ever did, so a hundred years is so different from what it used to be, but that's not really the point of the fic, instead, it's just a feeling I had while reading it.

And I like that... while reading this, I couldn't really pin Loki's motivation for the deal down, because I doubt Loki himself would be able to have pinned it down to one specific reason. Loki is many things and many motivations all at once, even if they sometimes contradict each other. Maybe he just wants to keep something for himself, maybe he wants to have a kind of power over Tony, maybe he's afraid of what Tony would become on his own if Loki didn't put up roadblocks, maybe it's all of them, maybe it's none of them, maybe Loki himself doesn't know why he does things. The fascinating thing about this fic is that those complicated motivations are put up against Tony Stark and his need to poke and prod and his inabililty to just sit still and stay in one place, which the fic does a beautiful job with. It's a complicated, tangled up pairing and this fic does a lovely job of showing that on a much grander scale than we usually see. (Tony/Loki.)

Desiderata by stereobone

PAIRING/CHARACTERS: Tony Stark/Loki
Tony doesn't know anything about love. He's convinced himself it's for the best.
You know, I just realized that I had yet to read this fic and so, okay, time to remedy that. And, wow, did I whip through all 30k of this in practically no time! But stereobone's writing often does that to me, that I find myself completely engrossed in the fic and won't come out again until I'm completely done with it and have had no idea of the time passing. Which, of course, now leaves me with no more of the fic, but also feeling extremely satisfied over it because, ahhhhh, this is such good Tony and Loki fic! Also, LOKI HIT WITH A LOVE SPELL, I don't know why this isn't a more common thing in fandom, because it's fucking great.

What I love about this fic is that it doesn't take the easy route, not at any point, really. This is still Loki, who is so viciously angry even when he's unwillingly in love and this is Tony, who often does say the wrong thing that sets them several steps, and this is Tony & Loki who are similar in both good ways and bad ways, dissimiliar in both good ways and bad ways. The author, of course, is also a fan of Thor/Loki, so there's a strong thread of that in the fic and I found, oh, sure, part of me wished that Loki's feelings had been turned towards Thor, but the relationship they did have here was beautifully done (and painful, because Loki cannot allow himself Thor's affections anymore, which means he's cruel and vicious about it) and the author does a beautiful job of showing why it's Tony here who brings Loki around. That the way Tony pushes is unique to his character and this Loki responds well specifically to him, rather than just any old person that could have been the one he fell in love with.

So, I appreciated it on a larger level, for the direction the character arcs took, how it had to be these people that took this path, but I also appreciated the little details. The super hot sex scene when they finally get to that point, god, yes, especially when Loki literally pretty much kicks Tony off him so he can push Tony onto the bed and ride the fuck out of him, just give me that always. There's something almost vicious in the way they fuck each other, which is super hot, but also works with their characters really well. And just. Oh, this fic is so well written and doesn't soften everything up, but also doesn't break your heart, instead just pulls you along for the ride and there is absolutely a reason this has a bajillion kudos. (Tony/Loki, NSFW.)

I meant to catch up on a bunch of shorter fics today, but somehow... I wound up spending all my free reading time today on this fic instead. In some ways, this fic makes me wish I loved Tony/Loki more than I do, but, at the same time, makes me glad that I don't, because I'm not sure I could have two pairings tugging at my heart strings so fiercely. Instead, I get to read a really excellent fic and just be satisfied at the reading of it! And this fic does a lot of things that I really, really loved--surprisingly, I was actually glad for the near complete lack of Thor in this fic, because that relationship is always more important to me than any other ship, so by leaving Thor out of this, I was able to concentrate on the Tony/Loki much better. Second, the writing of this fic was pretty amazing--it was sharp and funny, there were moments where I had to stop reading just to laugh for awhile, and it's the kind of writing where... I almost found myself skipping sentences and paragraphs, tripping over myself to hurry up to the next part, because I really, really wanted to know how the characters were going to react next!

The author has a fantastic Tony Stark voice, which is always welcome in the fic I read, both for the hilarity and the more ouchy aspects of Tony's personality, the ones that let him understand Loki so much more instinctively than the rest of the Avengers. Plus! Loki with the Avengers!! Yesssss, that is a thing I have yet to tire of ever! But also the pacing and balance of the fic! Yeah, sure, I was reading this for the Loki feels and the Tony feels and the Tony/Loki feels, but also the sense of family from all the Avengers, where some of the absolute best moments are when they're all crowded into the same room. And, oh, this author did something gorgeous that I want to see more often--the Avengers (Tony especially) just taking utter DELIGHT in introducing Loki to various Migardian culture. Foods! Entertainment! Things to do! It's such a fun, snappy way to slowly bring Loki around, to give him connections to other characters, to people on Midgard that have nothing to do with Asgard, to have him slowly establishing himself on his own merits. The only downside is that there's only been 27 chapters (as of this rec) and the current one ends on a hell of a cliffhanger. *rolls around in agony* (Tony/Loki.)

From the cliff above, Loki settled in to watch Thor battle Iron Man. The victor would claim him. Utterly. (Or, an AU theory of what Tony and Thor really were fighting for.)
Oh, man, I will read all the fic where Loki sits on the moutnaintop while Thor and Iron Man duel over him while he's in heat. The imagery here is lovely, the way Loki is nearly sodden with desire to be mounted, how hungry is it be be fucked well and thoroughly, yet he is still sharp-edged and selfish, he's still almost gleeful about it, which is a delicious combination. Just the hints of possible sex, the brief flashes of imagery are enough to be tasty as well, mmm. This was just pure fun and the slightest bit naughty in a really great way!
